need info about orleans. anyone stayed recently?

going in september and it seems to be a pretty good deal. yes or no? what are the upsides, downsides? looking for value, and we will be there for 2nd night of honeymoon. both in low 30s and not big into club scene or that type of thing.

Was there 10 days ago.

Orleans is a GREAT deal and value at around $50 a night. We experienced very efficient and friendly customer service from Valet Parking to check-out. Extremely comfortable and large room with tremendous view from the SHOWER. Really good and reasonably priced dining options, epecially the Prime Rib Loft where two can dine for around $50 easily.

Nice sized casino that is fun to gamble in (low minimus) and easy to get around in the place. The only downside is that it is off-strip by itself and is not really the ';hippest'; place around for your age. It seems to cater to budget minded middle-aged folks and familes, but if you don%26#39;t need a

happenin'; club scene you will be fine and have fun.

Another hotel that is a GREAT deal for the money is Golden Nugget downtown. It%26#39;s more upscale than Orleans, and if you can get a room there for around $79 or less Sun-Thur or $99 Fri-Sat, that is also a bargain. Downtown FSE area is a fun place to walk around at night.

The good:

Orleans is great value for the dollar...meaning that the amount you pay for, for one night at Orleans you would literally pay twice on a strip hotel (with the same quality).

Just like most off the strip hotels, they offer low limit tables….and the staff at Orleans really work hard to earn your business…..meaning they are nice and friendly.

The bad:

It’s an off the strip hotel, meaning that you can either rely on the “free” shuttle service to Barbary Coast hotel, or rent a car, or spend A LOT of money on cab fares.

PLEASE NOTE: the free shuttle only runs till mid-night (12:30 AM)……so if you’re planning on watching a show on the strip, you’ll have to walk fast back to Barbary Coast to catch the shuttle, or be prepare to pay over $20 for a cab.

IF you never been to LV before, I WOULDN’T recommend Orleans, cause there is NO other hotel/casino within walking distance. You wouldn’t get to experience LV night life…with all the lights and glitter.

Orleans is a hotel all by itself, 2 miles west of the MGM….the only thing you will find within walking distance is the Home Depot….so I guess if you’re not having any luck at the slots, you can “fix” the machine with a hammer.

You say you’re not into club scene, but you didn’t mentioned if you plan on gambling most of the time, or watch shows ,or what?!? Therefore it’s hard to know if Orleans will be for you or not.

But I hope the info I provided will help.

Chris:

I was at The Orleans 2 months ago, and have stayed there a couple of times. It is a great value, rooms are big, although slightly dated. LOTS of locals, in fact, I was playing blacjkack at a table with a bunch of locals and the one guys wife paged him in the casino to tell him to bring home chinese food!

On Fridays, they have a cashier window dedicated to cashing paychecks. There was at least 200 people in line to get their checks cashed. Makes it slightly crowded working your way around the lines.

Pool area is adequate, spa/gym is adequate and they have a great coupon book they give you at check in. Sazios is a decent italian restaurant...but that%26#39;s the only place I ate at. I always leave the Orleans at night to venture out, and I take a cab. $10-$12 to get to MB, depending on traffic. Not sure about getting to the other end of the strip.

It%26#39;s not a 4 star hotel, but it%26#39;s clean, the staff has always been friendly to me and the price is great.

Good Luck and have a great time!

Orleans is a good deal and I second what the others said. newly retired folk like we are and some younger couples with children. we stayed there in April, no problem taking the shuttle to the Barbary Coast. BUT I think during busier times it won%26#39;t be that easy and we were lucky to be first in a long line to get a shuttle back to the Orleans. those from the Barbary don%26#39;t run as often as from Orleans.

we%26#39;re going again Sept. 4 and I had booked the Orleans but because of worrying about the shuttle situation and because I want to see a couple of shows I%26#39;ve changed to Harrah%26#39;s. it doesn%26#39;t have the best reviews on this board but the price was good, they say the buffet is good, and unless something better comes along that will be it.

from the Orleans we walked to a Walgreens for bottled water and passed a grocery on the way, a small one, I think. also there%26#39;s a car rental place across the street from the Orleans.

If I may ask, why are you going to Vegas? If you stay at the Orleans you could be staying in any city in the country. You are too far from all that Vegas is.

damama...right..orleans has become soooo smokey..was there a couple of weeks ago and you could%26#39;t breathe...

Personally, we stay at the Orleans for:

Large room - sitting area great for morning paper and coffee/nibbles as DH goes down to Seattles Best each morning. Clean and tidy each day. We tipped $5.00 and got mountains of towels/pillows/extras each day (2 of us).

Restaurants - you can spend more $$ and get less on the strip. Prime Rib and Big Al%26#39;s are good for dinner while coffee shop can provide multiple choices for late night/early morning. Try the Mexican for lunch.

Location - if you want to visit the strip each day than try to use the shuttle. There is a Budget across the street if you want to rent a car to see outside the LV area which is recommendated or for visiting the strip using each hotels parking areas that is very easy as well.

Good value for the $$. Spend what you save on whatever you want.

Stayed at the Orleans, room was very nice, good pool. Casino was smoky in the evenings, vp wasn%26#39;t very good. Buffet was excellent, esp. for breakfast and lunch. There were some fast food places and a coffee shop, too. There are some big conventions in Sept. so this might be the best value if you are there when they are in town. If you rent a car, this is a great place to stay. If not, the shuttles can fill up very quickly and cab fare can get expensive. The place is some what isolated and I wouldn%26#39;t advise walking to the strip. The traffic is heavy and the neighborhood is not too good.

also there are two big conventions in town the week of Sept. 11. the week of Sept. 4 prices aren%26#39;t as bad. so you should check out the prices of other hotels and if they are sky-high Orleans might be a good deal.

we are staying at the trop first night, then maybe orleans, and then nugget for two nights. we will be hanging at the pool mostly and gambling at night. i play lots of poker and she likes the slots. i have been before, just not with her, so i am looking for some ';relaxing time'; as well as ';crazy vegas'; time. figured one night there to be relaxing time. how far is the walk to palms, rio? to far?
