I just love Carrott Top I%26#39;ve seen that he is at the Luxor, does any one know if he%26#39;ll be there the End of September?
Checked on tickets for that week and said it was not available, just wondering if they sell tickets this far in advance?
Thanks
He will be there. They sell tickets 90 days in advance.
we called 90 days in advance and we got front row center. Lots of fun, got to shake his hand at the end of the show.
We bought our tickets half price at tickets 4 tonight booth, checked in early at the box office and got great seats. The show is awesome.
So what is this show? Comedy? What%26#39;s he like? What age group does he appeal to?
He%26#39;s a prop comedian, I just saw him on Wed night, loved him!!! Sooo funny. I would really say all ages, I%26#39;m 31 and had my parents with me and we all loved it equally. There were all ages in there and everyone appeared to be having a great time. He pokes fun at very current events so anyone can relate.
thanks. I will check it out.
damama- He is so funny I was crying the entire show. You won%26#39;t be sorry!
OK, silly question of the week coming up. I%26#39;ve search to try to find the answer but couldn%26#39;t find it (so please don%26#39;t shout at me for being ignorant!).
Do you have to eat at JB%26#39;s or can you just turn up, sit at the bar and drink?
You don%26#39;t have to eat, there are a few tables in the inside bar area, then the upstairs bar area. It%26#39;s usually pretty crowded though, so you may end up standing or waiting for a table in the bar. You do have to eat to get a table in the restaurant area.
They will welcome you at the bar, if you can get a seat. thathe bar seems to be the place to be anyways, table service seems to be shoddy (has been posted here many times about bad service, and I agree). Free music at night. The band is quite good and the scene is fun. Just don%26#39;t expect good service. I%26#39;m not sure who is tipping these folks well enough that they don%26#39;t get it. I didn%26#39;t experience anything of a No tipping situation, but I barely tipped between 10 and 15 percent due to being forgotten about for long periods of time.
I am thinking about planning a trip to Las Vegas for Thanksgiving (3 days, Wed., Thurs., Friday.) Anyone ever celebrated Thanksgiving in Las Vegas? Any suggestions on where to eat dinner on ';Turkey Day';. Wondering also about temperatures in November. Have been there in the summer only and didn%26#39;t like the 100 + degrees. Any help that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Have only stayed at Caesars Palace before and would love to try another hotel. Thanks again.
Las Vegas for Thanksgiving!
I spent many Thanksgiving vacation in Vegas but at a private home so I can%26#39;t help with a restaurant. I do know that the weather at that time of the year can be ';iffy.'; The average highs - low 60s. A few years the highs have reached the mid to upper 70s but other years the highs have never gone above the 40s! I would bring clothes that can be layered so you will be prepared for anything.
Here is a site that will tell you the average daily temps for November:
www.wrh.noaa.gov/vef/climate/page13.php
Las Vegas for Thanksgiving!T-Week is a great time to stay at a luxury hotel for a discount price. First of all, the weather will be great kind of a mix between shorts and sweater around your waist. However because of the low capacity some restaurants will not be open, some shows will not be open and just my experience like any other job I believe some of the best employees take time off for the holidays. Overall I liked it (who can beat NFL and NCAA sportsbook on T-Day) but it was kind of weird with it being so slow.
Don%26#39;t count on the weather, it may be 40 or 70.
You will find a lot of resturants closed on T-Day. However about any of the buffets offer T-Day dinner. Oddly as it may seem the buffets and resturants will be packed as us locals come out of the woodwork, no one knows how to cook here. All buffets and restuarants prices will be elevated. The better resturants will require reservations.
We are going over Thanksgiving. We booked our hotel in Feb. cheap and the price has now risen $100.00. Were now just waiting to see if any specials come up. So prices may be starting to go up.
I had heard Thanksgiving was fairly busy but the weeks after were not. How far in advance should you book a restaurant.?
You could run into 55 degree highs and 30%26#39;s lows in Nov...forget about swimming pool in any case, around Thanksgiving
If you can afford Caesars Palace, then you can afford most...
Mirage is nice, older-but-well-kept like CP
I like the Rio a lot, but it is off-strip
Venetian has great, high priced, rooms also Wynn, Bellagio
More moderate but still very, very nice...Aladdin, Paris, TI, Mandalay Bay
';How far in advance should you book a restaurant.? ';
As soon as the resturant will accept them.
We were in Vegas for Thanksgiving 2005. We stayed from Sunday - Friday. It was much busier than I thought it would be. The restaurants had long lines on Thanksgiving Day. We ate at the buffet at the Mirage for brunch - about $26/person - we only picked there because we happened to be walking by and there was no line. Everywhere we went was packed. I really didn%26#39;t expect the crowds... I figured that Vegas wouldn%26#39;t be crowded during a ';family'; holiday. I couldn%26#39;t have been more wrong.
DH said he won%26#39;t go back over Thanksgiving. Not sure if I would or not.
I%26#39;ve been in Vegas for a couple of Thanksgivings and would definitely go again. Of course, I don%26#39;t eat meat so it doesn%26#39;t bother me in the least not to have a traditional turkey dinner. My Thanksgiving feast last year consisted of edemame %26amp; maki at Sushi Roku. Yum!
As others have said, the weather is pretty unpredicatble that time of year, some places are closed (like Nobu where we initially planned to eat!) and there are some great prices to be found. We%26#39;ve stayed at the beginning of the Thanksgiving week and left on Friday, so we missed peak airfares %26amp; crowds. It seems like a lot of people much stay home until after the holiday itself and then hit town for the other 3 days.
I love a good value and like to get to Vegas as frequently as possible, so for me it%26#39;s a good time to visit. if I were only going to go once or even twice a year I might want to shoot for a time when there was a bit more business and a better guarantee of nice weather.
Can someone please explain how airport check-in works? We will be staying at the Flamingo in Oct, and everyone is talking about doing the airport check-in. Can you try to get a room upgrade if you do this? Thank you for any input!!
Harrah%26#39;s and MGM/mirage both have a check in area in baggage claim. You can certainly check in for the flamingo there and generally, you have a shorter line and yes they can upgrade you too...Works about the same as the hotel.
I have used this service several times with pretty good success. The only problems I have ever run into is if you arrive late. They close at 11pm, but the computers go off-line at airport check-in earlier than that. So if you are arriving after 9p, I would just go straight to the hotel.
Thank you tomvegas for your help!!
Is this service of airport check in also available for the bellagio pls
we arrive on Sunday Sept 3rd FRom NYC and i heard lines are crazy over the weekends
thanks
I checked in a few weeks ago at the Flamingo airport. It was a breeze. They were so NICE!!!! I asked for a better room and got one just by asking nicely. The clerk explained the different room views etc. and let me choose. No $20 needed nor would I ever offer.
When I got to the Hotel the line was really long. YIKES! When I got in my room it was not clean and I called right from the dirty room and they offered me a suite. How lucky was that!
BTW this was on a Wednesday when I checked in. As I walked through the hotel over the weekind the lines were really LONG. Makes me think twice about checking in on a Friday or a Saturday.
is this airport check in available for all hotels pls
we are staying at the Beallagio
thank you
No, not Bellagio.
MGM properties for airport check in are MGM and NYNY
Harrah%26#39;s property%26#39;s-Caesars, Ballys, Flamingo and Paris.
No, you can%26#39;t check in at the airport for the Bellagio. Sorry!!!
thank you i appreciate your help
We are not great champagne drinkers (more beer for me and bacardi or Baileys for my wife.),not real big eaters either,so question is this .Are the Bellagio or Ballys sterling buffets worth the money.? We are looking at Commanders jazz lunch (like jazz love cajun ) but will be having dinner and lunch there .Also looking at Gospel brunch in mandalay for something different .All help appreciated.
Personally I love the Gospel Brunch at House of Blues, Mandalay Bay. Nothing heavy religous wise, good food, great music and a lot of fun, personally I prefer the second sitting.
Well worth it
You%26#39;ve named the 4 best brunhes in Las Vegas. You ask if it is worth the money? Well, it is if you want the best gourmet food. Sterling Brunch at Bally%26#39;s is Las Vegas No. 1 brunch. Reservations: (702) 967-7999. The all-you-can-eat brunch is held every Sunday in Bally鈥檚 Steakhouse. (Seatings from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Closes: 2:30 p.m.) They even have lobster, caviar, fine French champagne. The waiters wear tuxedos. Cost: $58.
Have you checked out CC Steakhouse brunch? They have 3 seatings to choose from and it is one of if not the top rated in Vegas for brunches. Vegashomeboy would probably totally agree with this recommendation. I think it would be more to yours and wifes liking as not as much quantity but more on ';quality'; to choose from. They have excellent choices of seafood and beef. The cost is like $25-$30 and since you both don%26#39;t eat that much it seems like this would be more for you both then the more expensive brunches. Just be sure to make reservations up to 10 days in advance.
I agree that Bally%26#39;s is probably the best although it is about $60 now. The champagne is very good so you might like it. On the other hand, maybe for the price they would substitute for you your drink of choice.
We found that by eating around 12:30 or 1:00 we didn%26#39;t need to eat again that day.
I can%26#39;t do it now but if I get a chance, I will call Bally%26#39;s for you tonight to check out whether you can substitute your drink or even pay less and not get the champagne.
Paris is good also.
We are thinking about going to the Sterling Sunday Brunch at Ballys. Has anybody been recently and was it worth the money?
I went in February...It was really pretty amazing. The food very good. 8/10.
They have all you can eat lobtser tails which you won%26#39;t see at your standard buffet, along with a variety of quality meats, fresh sushi a large selection of anti-pasti along with your other standard buffet fare.
$62 per person but that includes all you can drink Perrier Jouet champagne that is served while you wait for your table. Even with a reservation, we waited 30 minutes for our table ;(
They seem to have a problem with not having enough tables for 2 or not willing to waste the limited space they have on parties of 2. Just an FYI...(I%26#39;m a Diamond card member and I still had to wait) But the service was outstanding...
It%26#39;s something that I would recomend you have at least once in your life as it is one of those ';indulgences'; that will stick out in your mind when you think back on all your trips to Las Vegas.
Have Fun!
We were also there in February and I agree with what the previous poster said. Great food and it kept us filled for the rest of the day. We did have to wait in line in spite of our reservations but they started pouring the champage while we waited.
One bit of advice we got from someone else in line who is a regular there - don%26#39;t eat the bread. It fills you up and isn%26#39;t that good. Save room for the lobster. Also, you have to ask for the caviar. They keep it hidden!
Bally%26#39;s is good, but very expensive. There is actually a few very good ones for less. Here is ZAGAT%26#39;s survey of the 5 best in town rated in order. You will be surprise, watch the price.
Key to Ratings: Restaurants
Food, Decor and Service are each rated on a scale of 0 to 30.
26-30 ...extraordinary to perfection
20-25 ...very good to excellent

wheres the medici cafe?
Have 3 nights in Vegas next spring - staying at the MGM
1 nite for hotel hopping %26amp; exploring Luxur, Belaggio, TI, Mirage, NyNY, Paris, etc
2 nites for shows. My cousin wants a Cirque show and I wouldn%26#39;t mind seeing Celene. MGM has KA and convenient - and Mystere would also be ok.
My question is since Dion has a cirque designer - if we see both Dion %26amp; KA would we be disapointed with too similar shows, other than Dion singing?
Live in Seattle so see headliners in town all the time - Elton John is coming this September. We%26#39;ve both seen Jubilee.
Ka and Celine are very different. Dragoon, who produced Celine%26#39;s show, merely made it artsy fartsy and pleasing to the eye. Ka is more acrobatic and will leave you wondering, ';how the heck did they do that and not kill themselves?';
I will be in Vegas for 8 days starting June 24. On June 29 I have a day free between my business concluding and some friends meeting me there for the weekend so I thought it%26#39;d be fun to take a day trip out into the desert somewhere... I was thinking Death Valley, but is that a bad idea in late June? Heat doesn%26#39;t bother me, and I assume my rental car will be reliable... Is there anyplace better or nearly as good to do a day trip closer to Vegas?
Death Valley or other day trip from Las Vegas on June 29?I don%26#39;t recommend Death Valley on June 29. Walking outside between casinos in that heat is acceptable for a few minutes, but driving out to DV and dealing with that awful heat is not fun. You may not be bothered by it, but your friends and car certainly will.
If you do go, make sure to bring several gallons of water.
Heat doesn%26#39;t bother you? It was 114 in Baker the other day. That really bothered me.
Death Valley or other day trip from Las Vegas on June 29?I would suggest Laughlin (90 miles south) - - see: - - http://lasvegas4newbies.com/chap5-6.html - - or the west rim of the Grand Canyon. - - http://lasvegas4newbies.com/chap5-5.html - - Death Valley National Park has a website at - - www.death.valley.national-park.com/visit.htm - - Be aware that temperatures in Death Valley commonly run above 120 degrees F in the summer!
I actually love a Death Valley Trip. It is one of the most interesting places near Vegas. NOT in the summer though. Entirely too hot and sun is absolutely brutal. Temps can be as hot as 130 and there is no shade. Put it off if possible until about October as the warmth will be welcomed.
A closer trip with cooler temps would be a trip up Mt Charleston. Temps would be 20 degrees cooler and scenery is fantastic.
Either one you choose take lots of water and enjoy.
I strongly recommend Death Valley in the summer -- specifically Badwater, the lowest point of elevation in North America. Enter at the pass at Shoshone on Rt 178 and you just keep winding down and down and down. It%26#39;s fun if your car has an exterior thermometer. Hop out of the car at Badwater and the heat is unlike anything you%26#39;ve experienced. You really get a sense of how harsh this planet can be. No reason to fear the heat -- you%26#39;re not going to walk too far from the car, that%26#39;s for sure.
DV in cooler weather is boring. Go in the summer if you want to understand why they call it Death Valley.
That said, Valley of Fire State Park (northeast of LV) is a shorter drive and offers the most beautiful desert scenery that I%26#39;ve seen within a few hours of the city, hands-down.

We were in Death Valley in September 2005 and were sat outside our room at 11.00pm and the temprature was still in the 90%26#39;s!
I would have liked to have visit in the summer, just to experience the heat. I can%26#39;t even imagine what it would be like. According to the weather forcast, in the next couple of days Vegas is going to be 98 while in Death Valley it%26#39;s 113.
Barbie
To really see Death Valley you need to drive about a 250 mile loop (about 6-8 hours) so I would rec. Valley of Fire, Lake Mead and Hoover Dam instead.
Thats an easy four hour or so deal and you can do a ';loop'; trip of it by heading straight to the Dam firrst thing. then taking the Stae Highway that runs along the wertern shore of Lake Mead north to Valley of Fire. Drive thru the park and out the other side to I-15 back in to Vegas. Death Valley is fine in the summer, but a LONG day to get the most out of it.
Thanks for all of your quick advice! I think I may go ahead and try it... As for 6-8 hours, I have all day that day to kill by myself, and if I spend it all in Vegas I%26#39;ll end up broke for sure! : )
I%26#39;ll be in a rental, so I don%26#39;t know about a thermometer, but I%26#39;ll definitely take a portable one so I can take a picture of it while I%26#39;m there in Badwater...
I%26#39;ll be sure to bring 5 gallons or so of water and lots of snacks. Fortunately water%26#39;s cheap so whatever I don%26#39;t drink while back in Vegas I can just dump.
Oh and I liek all of your other ideas, but for some reason I%26#39;d really liek to see DV. I%26#39;m glad that whiel many think it might be miserable it seems safe enough and possible to do in a day.
I%26#39;ve already seen the Hoover Dam on previous trips. I%26#39;m looking to get farther away.
And liek Drake said, I won%26#39;t wander far from the car!
That%26#39;s the spirit -- get ready to bake!
Well the trip is finally close enough (Wed) to start thinking about these things...
I%26#39;m flying Southwest with a paper ticket. It%26#39;s the only way they do it when you purchase a package thru Southwest vacations. The website won%26#39;t let you check in ahead of time %26amp; print a boarding pass unless you have an e-ticket. Unless I%26#39;m missing something. Is there a way around this? Or do i have to check in at the airport an hour before my flight? I really don%26#39;t care where i sit on the plane, but i do want to sid with DH.
Please help...
I don%26#39;t think you can get around it. Even with an E-ticket, I go more than an hour early for my flight. You never know when there might be some glitch in security that will delay your checking in. You don%26#39;t say what time you leave. If your flight is a popular one, it may take some time to go through baggage check. We were use to going on an early flight and going through baggage check easily, before Hurrican Katrina changed so much in New Orleans. Our first trip after that (Feb. %26#39;06) we were on a different flight. Had trouble getting a cab to pick us up at our home and had an unusually long line at the baggage check. We almost missed our flight.
Check In at least 1-1/2 hrs early to get decent seating together.
Stop at ticket counter for pass, before SECURITY Fiasco.
Please someone, there has to be a way around it. I would even go to the airport and stand in line a few days early if they could switch out my paper ticket. I don%26#39;t want to end up with a C boarding pass and sit in the middle of two unknown people, instead of hubby.
I flew SW last week, Friday checkin at 7a for an 8:44 flight. Checked golf clubs and had no problem at all. I did have an e-ticket so I was able to print my boarding pass 24hrs in advance and get a coveted %26#39;A%26#39;. The chance of sitting next to DH is good since middle seats are the last to go and even a %26#39;C%26#39; can sit right next to an %26#39;A%26#39; who may have the window or aisle.
VODKAXX , that%26#39;s not going to work, when everyone the night before has already checked in. Most Southwest flyers have an alarm clock or something and check in at exactly 24 hours and .02 seconds.
since you don%26#39;t care where you sit, just go as early as you can. you will most likley get a b or c pass. that means you will board last. but you don%26#39;t care where you sit. you will most likley be in the back. in middle and window.
Greg, we do care to whom we sit next to. C means, no carry on and most likely a middle seat. We just don%26#39;t care where on the plane where we sit, such as front, middle or back of the plane. We want to check in 24hrs ahead of time, just like everyone else.
Did you call and ask Southwest?
Just saw on the news last night that all airlines will be doing away with paper tickets in the next few months. They say it will save the airlines several billions of dollars by doing this. I know this doesn%26#39;t help you now but thought I would pass on the info.
ok...just got off the phone with Southwest. They told me there is absolutely no way around this. If you buy a hotel %26amp; airfare package, the paper ticket, with the no option for early check in, is part of that package.
So I have to work till 3, go home, race to airport (in rush hour traffic), park in an off site lot, shuttle to actual airport, and still try to check in at least 2 hours before flight which takes off at 6.
Oh well, maybe i%26#39;ll leave work even earlier. I%26#39;ll be pretty much useless that day anyway. And if i have a lot of time to kill at the airport, they have the best bloody mary%26#39;s in airport bars.
Good luck to the rest of yas w/ the same problem.
I%26#39;m wondering if I am staying at one hotel, but would rather use another hotels pool - is that ok? Is there an admittance fee?
NO it%26#39;s not OK unless you are staying at Bally%26#39;s/Paris...You can use either pool...but everywhere else that i know of, HELL NAWWW!
Use the Search box ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ and you will see that this question - as well as ';where to stay with my kids,'; ';best buffet,'; and ';where can I get fruity drinks'; gets asked ad nauseum...
It%26#39;s funny how people ask this question on the Vegas forum but would never ask it on any other forum. Could you imagine someone asking something like this:
';We%26#39;re staying at the Motel 8 off of the interstate near downtown Los Angeles but was wondering if we%26#39;re allowed to use the pool at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills?';
$15 to use the Monte Carlo pool.
Hey guys -- it%26#39;s not a stupid question... You can pay to get into the Hard Rock pool on Sundays and possible other times during thw week, though I%26#39;m not sure how much swimming you%26#39;ll get to do. I hear it gets pretty crowded and you have to wait in line for a long time.
I%26#39;ve also read that Beach Club 25 at Stratosphere%26#39;s topless pool is open to non-guests (men pay $10 extra). Caesars%26#39; Venus Pool (also topless) charges a $20 entrance fee for ladies and $35 for men. You don%26#39;t have to be a guest.
My husband and I are treating ourselves and another couple to a stopover in Vegas (3 nights) on our way to Texas this summer. I am the only one who has been there before (stayed at TI). We initially wanted to stay at the Ritz in Henderson, but figured since we have so little time it wouldn%26#39;t facilitate seeing ';vegas.'; We want to see all the cheesy theme hotels, but we just don%26#39;t want to stay at one. We%26#39;re interested in shopping, sightseeing and possibly a show. We will not be clubbing or gambling. We want more of an oasis, since we%26#39;ll be busy once we get to Texas.
I have narrowed it down to The Four Seasons, the Bellagio, and the new Signature at MGM. The Wynn is a remote possibility. I%26#39;m leaning towards the Signature or the Four Seasons because they seem like the best of both worlds. Unless the fountains and designer shops at Bellagio rare really worth it. I would love it if someone local could give me a rundown/ and recommend one of these hotels. The others aren%26#39;t so picky, but having a great room and luxurious bathroom are important to me. My husband wants a great view of the strip.
Thanks!
Great view of the strip says Bellagio to me! But, you will have to book a lakeview room to get that view. We did it in Nov and the view was well worth the extra cost. We were on the 24th floor, out our window front and center were the Bellagio fountains with Paris and the Eiffel Tower as backdrops!
Until I saw the remark about center strip and a view, I was going to say Four Seasons might best suit your needs for that oasis you want. However, Bellagio is beautiful. If you do choose it, to keep you in oasis mode, take a 1/2 day at their spa for a nice couples massage or other services they have to offer.
No matter which you choose, enjoy!
Have stayed at the Wynn, Bellagio and 4 Seasons. Wynn is overpriced but is beautiful with only mid-sized crowds---more gawkers than guests. 4 Season has a private pool area from Mandalay Bay (remember 4 Seasons is the top 4 floors of Mandalay Bay and a great spa. The rooms are the same as Mandalay---so do not plan on a great bathroom unless you really upgrade Bellagio is primo even at the low level rooms facing the lake. Have always been pleased with my visits here--you will not go wrong
If you want Center Strip then 4 Seasons would be out; but loved our stay there. Sounds like the others have it nailed, Bellagio would suit you best.
Hi canada
i recently returned from my 1st vegas trip. I checked out all the hotels and like you am not interested in the cheesy disney type hotels.I thought the mandalay bay and bellagio and wynn were the nicest ,ceasers palace was impressive and high end shops. if your looking for decnt discount shopping .i went to the premium outlet mall.Great deals compared to canada , especially for name brand stuff for my preteens. Probably bellagio for location. I have not compared rooms in these hotels. Good luck let us know how it turns out. wynne from quebec
For the view I definitely say Bellagio. Just be prepared to pay for that lakeview room--it is worth it.
Shopping--definitely Forum shops at Caesar%26#39;s Palace and Fashion Show Mall.
I would say stay at the Bellagio. It is more ';center'; strip as opposed to the others. MGM and Mandalay are both at the south end of the strip and if you want to shop all the big shopping centers (ceasars/fashion show mall) are at the center/north end of the strip.
I am a fan of the awesome bathroom too. From your post, I think you should try the the rooms in the Palace Tower at Caesars Palace. It was much larger than the Bellagio room and had his and her bathrooms that were connected by a huge shower in between them. We took a lot of showers.....Also, great location and everything Caesars has to offer. I don%26#39;t recall what exactly the room was called, but call and describe it and they will figure it out; it was not the average CP room. You would not be disappointed. We have stayed everywhere that everyone else has mentioned except the Signature at MGM.
That Palace Tower room was not an ordinary Palace Tower room, I can%26#39;t remember what they call them though.....maybe petite suite?? Anyway, those rooms are oversized and have a Jack and Jill bathroom connected by a huge shower. I stayed in one a few years ago and loved it. That said, I%26#39;ve read on here where some say that the Palace Tower is now looking a little worn. That%26#39;s why I didn%26#39;t name it in my other post but did name the new Augustus Tower.
Thanks Gabby, I know it wasn%26#39;t the standard room. We wore each other out, but the room was fine when we left it.
LOL ;)
Do you remember what they called those rooms? The bathroom/shower set up was awesome!
Anyone stay there before....I leave in 2 weeks and would like to know what to expext ....Thanx
Expect the same but with some more room. Same amount of homeless and scaries outside though. For what you pay for a suite at the Strat, you could probably get a jacuzzi suite @ NYNY.
Not a classy property, a ';value'; or ';bargain'; hotel due to tacky decor and location. Long walk to mid strip, passing a few tatoo parlors and vagrants on the way. The suites themselves are pretty nice
But, change to a standard room in a nicer place for the same money
moderate priced but great, TI, Ballys, Luxor, Monte Carlo(nice pool),
up the price/quality ladder...MGM, Mirage, Rio (offstrip), Mandalay Bay, Aladdin(construction going on), Paris, Caesar%26#39;s Palace, Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn
I don%26#39;t know about the suites, but the hotel itself is not that bad...
I think Strat gets a bad rap. I think it%26#39;s pretty nice, except for the immediate surroundings outside.
On the inside though, it%26#39;s pretty nice looking and has a pretty fun and upbeat atmosphere.
The pool and gym facilities are decent, but it%26#39;s not that big and probably packed during the summer.
The Tower is the bomb though, and I highly recommend you check it out and the lounge up there.
The rooms are pretty clean, but the windows (in the standard rooms at least) SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! These windows kill what WOULD be a very nice view.
Oh and one thing to remember about the Stratosphere?
Do NOT order drinks there!!!!!!
Their drinks are so downright nasty, that I don%26#39;t know what to say. I mean, their drink service is equivalent to Arizona Charlie%26#39;s Decateur, and yes I%26#39;ve tried the drink service at AC%26#39;s Decateur, and I think no matter what you order, they serve you Thunderbird or Ripple, or a combination of the two.
I ordered a Henny and Coke at the Strat, and they came back with something that made me feel like I was back in the hood.... some really cheap whisky or something... it could have been E%26amp;J or Cisco, but also might have been Thunderbird.
Why they are serving drinks this cheap I will never know. That totally killed it for me.
They have different suites, so it depends on which one you reserved and which one they give you. We had a suite with a seperate bedroom that was pretty nice! VERY spacious! As far as suites, the Stratosphere still has some of the best deals in town!
Have never stayed there but can only imagine the ';suites are not that ';sweet';...
Arrived in Vegas last Thursday around 11:30 (this is my third time in Vegas). SW flight sucked as usual. Took a taxi to Caesars and tried to check in but they said we couldn%26#39;t until 2 so drank and gambled for a bit instead. When we did check in we decided to upgrade our room into the new Augustus tower since we heard on this website how nice it was. What a good decision- the room was fabulous! 41st floor, view of the strip and pools, jacuzzi tub, and the bed was so comfortable! Took a little bit for our luggage to be brought up, and we were ready to get back down and keep partying. Drank and gambled in Caesars and Bellago for the rest of the day until we had to get ready to meet our friend for dinner. Drink service good at Caesars, even at nickel slots. While we were waiting for our friend convinced the bouncer standing outside of Pure to put me on the list for Saturday night. Then our friend picked us up (nice to have a friend in Vegas) and went to Hard Rock for dinner at the Pink Taco. Pink Taco was great- it is my favorite Mexican place in Vegas. But I was so excited to be in Vegas and drunk too, so while we were waiting on dinner escaped to pay slots for a few minutes! After dinner gambled there for a few hours, mostly roulette, then went back and crashed.
Friday I was hungover. Breakfast buffet at Cafe Lago was good. We walked around to the end of the strip and gambled at all the hotels on the way- NY NY, Monte Carlo, Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay Bay. Drink service at MB sucked. Had lunch at Burger Bar in MB. Got one of those enormous margaritas after lunch at Luxor, but made me queasy so decided to hold off drinking till later. Hit the MGM on the way back then took the monorail back to Ballys. Got ready and had dinner at Neros steakhouse at CP. Pretty good- hubby liked the steak and my chicken was good, the mac %26amp; cheese was great. Friend picked us up and headed over to Wynn and gambled for a bit to get comp passes into Tryst. We were able to skip the line for Tryst too by passing a bouncer $40. Tryst was an awesome club- the waterfall outside was really cool. Wyclef Jean performed live which was cool too. After leaving Tryst a little too drunk and hubby lost playing War and Blackjack and was not in a good mood after that.
Next day ordered room service for breakfast which we did for the rest of the trip. Very convenient and good (except for last day) and not really expensive. Went to Mirage and saw the Siegfried and Roy%26#39;s Secret Garden. The dolphins were neat and it was a good way to kill an hour without drinking. Then went to the Price is Right show at Bally%26#39;s. It was OK. The host of The Bachelor was guest hosting. Would not go again. The TV clips they playing were actually more entertaining than the show itself. And they say it is random who goes on stage but I don%26#39;t think show- 3 guys from the same bachelor party got on stage! Prizes not great either. Nickel slots great at Bally%26#39;s though- you can play for hours on $20! Had dinner w/ hubby that night at Fix at Bellagio. Very good food, and very trendy. A bit loud, so probably wouldn%26#39;t be good for a romantixc dinner, but we didn%26#39;t care. Had a well done filet and it was great, and the Kobe beef cheese fries appetizer was unique. Headed over to Pure where a 9:15 (doesn%26#39;t open till 10) huge line already formed. Got in line around 9:30 in the VIP area. Didn%26#39;t get inside till around 10:15, but we were the first to be let in once that sat all the tables, and they had to wait forever too! If we weren%26#39;t on VIP probably would have took hours to get in literally- the line wrapped all around the casino. Pure was nice and the outside deck was totally awesome with great views of the strip. Don%26#39;t know if the club is worth ALL the hype though!
Sunday was our pool day at Caesars. The pools are really nice and very relaxing. Rented a raft for $15 and floated around and enjoyed it a lot. Not too many kids, and it was not a big party scene at all. Which was good since I was in the mood to chill. Checked out Paris hotel afterwards which was nice. Then went over to Aladdin and drink service there was excellent, on nickel slots too! Even when I was just sitting not even playing! Got ready and went to dinner we had reservations at Tao. If you go, make sure you make reservations at least a month in advance. (We could not even get in for Friday or Saturday night before 10:30, and we called 3 weeks before!) Dinner at Tao was worth it though, my favorite dinner of the whole trip. My Kung Pao chicken was the best ever. Spring rolls good too, and my hubby enjoyed the sushi, expecially the Angry Dragon roll. After dinner headed over to Bellagio where we had tickets for ';O';. 2nd level orchestra seats were great. Show was amazing, even hubby thought it was fantastic. After O gambled then went to Light for a little bit, got the manager%26#39;s card earlier so no wait (line not long anyways) and I got in free. Light sucked though- it was pretty small and it has no outdoor bar or anything like that. So headed back to Caesars around 3 am then I went to bed while he lost a few hundred dollars in their poker room. Do not play poker drunk- I tried to tell him!
Sadly Monday was our last day- although I was totally worn out from drinking and partying too much so it was probably a good thing. Had lunch at Gardenos at the Palms with our friend (their Mexican not NEARLY as good as Pink Taco) then he dropped us of at the airport.... :-( Flight sucked and we got back to Tampa after midnight completely exhausted and we are still recovering this weekend....why else would I be home on a Saturday night!!!! :-)
TRIP REPORT 6/1-6/5 Still recovering!!!Thanks for the wonderful post............I have now added the Pink Taco to my To-Do-List for my next trip to Vegas : )
TRIP REPORT 6/1-6/5 Still recovering!!!what was your gambling budget and how much did you lose?
Awesome report!!!
how much did it cost to upgrade?
thanks
Great report and welcome home! Thanks for the info on the Pink Taco...think I%26#39;ll try it out when hubby and I are there in August since finding good Mexican here in Tampa is next to impossible!!
Sounds like you had a really great time in Vegas. Thanks for sharing.
Didn%26#39;t really have a gambling budget, we just tried to keep track and play lower stakes games. We ended up losing about $500 total which is not too bad for 5 days (which is mostly due to my husband playing poker drunk at 4am). Actually had pretty good luck with slots and roulette not bad either. We are still in Vegas withdrawl so ended up going to the Hard Rock in Tampa last night and met a friend up there. I won $200 on slots, but hubby lost $300 playing poker tournaments!
FYI- ask the Pink Taco to make you their hottest salsa- it is the craziest and your tongue will burn for an hour afterwards.
Oh, yeah....it costed $80 a night to upgrade but totally worth it. We cancelled our couples massage to make up for it!
Just spoke to a friend who I introduced to Vegas for the first time in February. While I was being the ';big shot'; on the 25 cent black jack machines, she was playing 5 cent slots.
She was just invited to spend three nights free at Bellagio in July over a weekend for a slots tournament.
Am I bitter?
damama wrotew: ';She was just invited to spend three nights free at Bellagio in July over a weekend for a slots tournament.';
I%26#39;m curious how much cash your friend ';left'; in the Bellagio machines in order to qualify for roughly $750 in free rooms?
I am too but don%26#39;t have the nerve to ask. I do know she spends a great deal of time gambling online and has visited numerous casinos on reservations. She is also known to spend some time in Charlestown, WVA at the racetrack.
';I am too but don%26#39;t have the nerve to ask';
OK, so you don%26#39;t but I do. Tell her staunchsteve gots to know...
ok, will see what I can find out. I do know that she was down about $600 at one point on the trip but that doesn%26#39;t seem like a lot in Bellagio terms. I think she mentioned by the end of the trip she was ahead.
Hey! I want IN on this!!! We%26#39;re staying at B in July, and I wasn%26#39;t planning on doing a lotta gambling there, but if I can get an invite for 3 nights to a slot tourn. there? THAT%26#39;S where I%26#39;ll be playing! Seriously, I%26#39;m curious too. I hope you can work up the nerve to ask. You can add Tipsie to the list of peeps that ';need to know';! :)
';Am I bitter?'; I%26#39;m taking that would be a yes!? lol
I%26#39;m going to have to rethink this whole slots thing. Maybe there is someone out there who can give us an idea of what it takes to be comped for rooms.
Could the deal be because it is a slots tournament, whatever that is?
damama, most slot tournaments (at least ones with good cash prizes) cost money to enter. The room is comped during the time of the tournament.......keep in mind though, entry fee!!! Could be that%26#39;s what she%26#39;s done but just told you about the comped room part!
Btw, I wanna know too!!!
damama: We came back from the Aladdin at the end of March getting our entire 5 night stay comped based on PENNY slot play. When we booked the room they comped Monday thru Wednesday based on previous play. At check out ,they took off Thursday and Friday nights. We basically play on one player%26#39;s card and that is the name that we book the room to. Slot players tend to bet faster than low limit or even mid level table players, so even though it sounds weird, a maximum bet slot player is actually spending faster than a $5 table player. Nothing to be bitter about; she (your friend) obviously dropped more money at nickel slots than you did at 25 cent blackjack. Nothing in life is free; hate to think about how much money a 5 night comp actually cost lol.
Will not deny we dropped a lot of money at Caesars in Feb. and now have 5 nights comped in Oct. (No fool here. I know I have either paid for those nights already or they anticipate my additional play in Oct. will pay for them.) I play mostly penny and nickel slots and my husband plays more of the high denomination slots. We start out with about the same budget and he sometimes he has more; however, I receive more comp points than he does. I believe the main reason is that I will sit at the same machine for a long time and he jumps from machine to machine. Theoretically, you could recycle the same $20 in a machine and get good comps. They count the money in and not what you take out to determine comps (as I understand it). If you put a $20 in and kept hitting enough to keep feeding the machine for several hours, you could earn comps on that $20. Doesn%26#39;t usually work that way for me, but there have been times that I recycled the same money for a rather long period of time. On the other hand you could go in, drop in $20 and on your first spin hit the jackpot, cash out and not put another coin in a machine. Would you get any comps? NO!
Can anyone tell me which cabana no. is the best. We have been given No. 1 and No. 2 on different days! What comes with them., Any info would be appreciated. We are going in July will it be very bsuy. Thanx
We were there last July and it was not busy at all. Plenty of room by the pool. We didn%26#39;t even see any of the cabanas being used.
Unless you want some additional privacy, or if they are free, I wouldn%26#39;t bother. Unoccupied, they seemed pretty spartan. Not much more than a tent. Can%26#39;t help you with the specific cabana numbers, but the pool area is not that large at all, so it probably doesn%26#39;t matter which one you get.
Not sure how these ';player'; cards work. Can you have two people to one card, and if so..........do they give you two cards with the same ';number'; or do you each have to have your own card? (Husband and wife) Have been a couple times to Las Vegas, but never signed up for any of these cards as I didn%26#39;t think it was worth the bother.
Thanks.......
I know that our Bellagio/ Mirage card is combined for my husband and I. Not sure about other properties
Yes you may combine and each will have a card. Always worth the bother. Many give you points up front when you join. It is only a penny for every dollar, but if you hit 2 or 3 $400 payouts and play them the points add up. Plus you are rated as to comps from your play so you can get a night or 2 comped!
You can keep seperate cards in case of BIG wins, but when it comes comp time, the hotel can combine your points for benefits (at least this is what MGM %26amp; co did for me).
My husband %26amp; I are going to Vegas (for the 1st time) for our Anniversary in mid July. I think I have it narrowed down to the Aladdin b/c of it%26#39;s proximity to the strip. How do I go about requesting an upgrade when I check in? Is this how it%26#39;s done?
Also, which is the best area to request for a view of the strip?
Any suggestions on affordable restaurants/ bars/ shows?
THANKS%26gt;
Don%26#39;t want to put you off, but they are doing a lot of work in the Aladdin at the moment - turing it into a planet hollywood hotel kind of at the moment. their shops are excellent. Paris is next door which hasn%26#39;t got the work. Hope this helps!
Check out my post today re the Aladdin. They are offering some good deals in July.
Not sure when they will be done but Alladin is pretty tore up right now ( I was there last week).
Shopping seemed to be OK but lots of work being done...
Lots of hotels that have priximity to the strip in that area...Bally%26#39;s Paris, if you don%26#39;t need a pool, Babray Coast is also in that area.
Slightly further down the strip the Monte Carlo is a nice place...
Purple Reign show at the Monte Carlo brew pub is a good show---free--most nightat 10:00 PM.
Big elvis in the afternoon 3:00 -6:00 is fun for a visit--free.
I just recently returned in April, from my stay at the Aladdin, and thought it was absolutely wonderful. Yes, they are transforming into Planet Holleywood Casino and Resort, and Me and my friend had no problem or even noticed the construction. The only sign of the transformation is the smaller casino and the check-in desk is has been moved from the lower level to the second floor.
Once we arrived at check-in, they offered us a upgrade at a higher price and I refused (since I knew we weren%26#39;t going to be sending much time in our room anyways) to my surprise.....the room was very nice and the view was of the casino across the street which was fine with us. (very nice actually).
I feel in love with this hotel for many reasons:
1. Center strip
2. Great customer service
3. Spice Market Buffet
4. Nice room and huge bathroom
5. Nice views
I hope this was of some help and have a great trip.
call 1-877-333-9474 [Aladdin] and mention promotion code CSUMM6 you may be able to midweek rate of $59.00....good luck
actually it is $79.00 not $59 .00 sorry about that.
Be very polite, relaxed, and smile when checking in. Mention that if an upgrade might be available, you would love to have it
Aladdin rooms and location are very nice. The only possible negative is how much construction
Just returned from Aladdin (5/29-6/3) and I agree with everything ToshaRae had to say...except #4...we were not impressed with the Spice Market buffet. We had a great trip!
#3, actually...
I booked 2 rooms and stayed at the Aladdin on May 28th and I didn%26#39;t even have to ask for an upgrade. The very nice gentleman upgraded us to resort rooms with fabulous views. It may have been that we were only staying one night or he may have been in a very good mood. Either way, the room was great, the beds very comfortable and the staff was wonderful. I believe my room number was 23174, beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower.
Group of four girls leaving hubbies and kids at home!!!. Can anyone tell us which show will be the best. American Storm, Thunder from Down Under, or Chippendale%26#39;s? We%26#39;ve heard rumors of a place called Olympic Garden, but know nothing about it. Any advice?
American Storm, Thunder from Down Under, or Chippendale's?From: http://lasvegas4newbies.com/chap6-8.html
Olympic Garden Cabaret is located at 1531 Las Vegas Blvd. South. ( near the Stratosphere Hotel/Casino) - Telephone: (702) 385-8987. Open 24 hours. Cover: Free before 6 p.m. (Unless you arrive by taxi), $20 after 6 p.m. (The Men of Olympus perform for the ladies on the second floor. $20 includes two drinks.)
More strip clubs and ladies shows are also listed.
American Storm, Thunder from Down Under, or Chippendale's?I can give you some help on a couple of these shows. I did not like American Storm. The guys are nice looking but there were only 6 of them and they weren%26#39;t that great at the dancing. The only good thing about American Storm is that the show is in the lounge of the Riviera not the showroom so you are much closer to the guys. Thunder from Down Under was a lot of fun. The guys are GREAT looking and they know how to dance for the ladies. In both shows, the guys would come out into the audience and dance around. Both shows have drink service so that isn%26#39;t a problem. I haven%26#39;t seen Chippendales so I can%26#39;t really comment on that show. Of the two that I have seen, I would give the edge to Thunder from Down Under. I hope this helps you out.
Without a doubt Thunder from downunder is the best of them.
I have to disagree, I disliked Thunder from Down Under, enjoyed Chippendales sooo much more, haven%26#39;t seen American Storm though. Thunder was pretty boring I thought, not nearly as much dancing or action.
Thunder from Down Under is a great show. We were all a little hesitant about going at first. Within the first 10 minutes one of the guys came to our table and asked us to clear the table. You have never seen 10 girls throw their purses, beers, etc on the floor as fast as we did. It was a great time!!!
Its good to see that fems can let their hair down once in a while just like the boys...
Do you need to rent a tube for the Lazy River @ Monte Carlo? How much is it? - thanks
They are tons of fun, but we just floated around with our feet up. Seemed like 1/2 the people had tubes. Can%26#39;t quote a price, this was two yrs ago.
You can buy your own at the ABC store instead of paying a daily rental.
Bring your own, inflatable Rubber Ducky
I have the same question about the lazy river at the MGM Grand. The tubes are $18 now - plan to be there 3 days. Do they let you use outside floatation devices?? I have a small snorkle vest. I%26#39;m not a great swimer.
Thanks
MC will let you use your own modest size floats
MGM won%26#39;t...theY stop you at the door, keep them till you leave...and tell you, you have to rent theirs...except, THEY%26#39;RE ALL OUT
I think the tubes were about $15/day last year.. you don%26#39;t have to use them on the lazy river. You can buy a cheapo one next door at CVS. I don%26#39;t think the MC bans them like the Grand.
My husband and I have reservations at Hugo%26#39;s Cellar in July. Since we will be on vacation most of our clothes will be casual. What will we need to wear to visit Hugo%26#39;s Cellar?
No rules in this town, all you need is a wallet full of cash or plastic
You should feel comfortable with business casual or even suit and tie.
Polo shirt and Kakhis will do...or even nice jeans...
My wife and I were there last July and I wore shorts and a polo shirt. Felt totally comfortable. There were other people dressed like me and there were some in suits and ties. It is whatever you want to wear. I wear a suit to work everyday. I am not going to wear one in Vegas.
Come to think of it, its so dark in there....
3Drvr, they check your underwear at the door at Hugo%26#39;s??
Yes they do lilbunnygirl .............no Bridget Jones underwear allowed
I have read a lot of topics on here and i think we all share the same feelings when it comes to the last few days before you leave for the Vegas. The feeling that time just cant go any slower and the feeling of feeling useless @ work. Well i have those feeling because i will be leaving on friday 6-16. 4 more days i need help to get through it.
Does anyone know of some really good Vegas movies that might help take the edge off a little. I think if i can see the Vegas then maybe i can calm down.
Thanks
Almost time for Vegas
Ocean%26#39;s 11 (both versions).
Our last trip, we watched Rounders on the plane out and Leaving Las Vegas on the plane home.
The Cooler is a pretty good Vegas movie.
16 more days for me!
Chevy Chase in Las Vegas Vacation...and of course Casino... Also check out The Cooler.
Thanx i now have my night planned. I luv the Cooler its a great movie. Ill be watching one on the way there i just bought a portable dvd player. I Luv The Vegas
Anybody seen this show? Is it worth the money?
I saw TAJ a few years ago at the Flamingo and I thought he was great. I then saw him 18 months ago at the Riviera and it was average to say the least. A few other people I spoke to that night agreed with me that his act has gone downhill.
Maybe the fact that he%26#39;s played at 4 different hotels in as many years tells you that he%26#39;s not as %26#39;amazing%26#39; as he once was.
I saw his show last September at Sahara. Got 1/2 price tix................ I thought it was pretty funny, but definitely not for kids!! His ';assistant'; was both annoying and hysterical at the same time.
When you see it, you%26#39;ll understand!!
2-fer
:o)
His show is worth the price at the half price ticket place. Get there early and tip the guy at the door and you can get a close up seat. Even though I had seen much of his show over the years on TV, I was still laughing so hard.
We are looking for a rental condo/vacation home that can accomodate 8 adults and 1 child. Closer to the strip the better :)
Any suggestions?
We are looking for the July end time frame. Is there a website that we can use to find such renetals
Thanks!

Accomodation for 8 adults 1 child in las vegasGOOGLE%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; Las Vegas Time Shares.
Hey Everyone,
I am visiting LV from July 21-25 with my best friend. We are considering going Sky Diving. He has done it before but I haven%26#39;t. Any suggestions of where to go? Any don%26#39;t go ideas? What are your experiences. Is it worth it? I found a coupon for $50 off...making the price about $200. Is that a good price?
Let me know.
Nikki
Obviously not...I didn%26#39;t say that.
Just looking for any suggestions of companies from any kind posters.
N
If money was not a factor where would you stay? Looking for suggestions.
I will tell you, I have stayed at some of the better establishments on the strip. Just looking for others opinions and rankings.
Never stayed at the Wynn or MB.
With that being said, personally, I would stay at Bellagio.
Four Seasons
Beliggio always is a favorite, but I will tell you MGM always puts us in a nice suite and the hosts takes care of everything my family wants, which make the whole experience great for all. Maybe I just do not have enough play for the B and I have stayed at the 4 Seasons. Now that they are a part of MGM/Mirage, we plan to see if we can have the same hosts for The 4 Seasons.
On an unlimited budget, I%26#39;d like to try THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. I think Bellagio %26amp; Venetian are overrated.
We%26#39;re going to stay at Red Rock in a few weeks, depending on how it is, my answer might change. Their suites look amazing on the website.
I have not had great experiences at the Four Seasons.
Four Seasons is nice, but you can stay at one of their hotels in so many differenent travel desinations. If money is not an object and you%26#39;re in Vegas...gotta go with the Vegas ';themed'; hotels you can%26#39;t find anywhere else. Top of the line at B or V for me.
This is tough! I can only narrow it down to four places (assuming the best suite I could reserve):
Wynn
Bellagio
Four Seasons
Skylofts at MGM
I%26#39;ve stayed at %26amp; loved both Wynn %26amp; Bellagio and know I%26#39;d have a fabulous time at either place. The final two options would be new to me, though I have stayed at MB. I%26#39;m not fond of the south strip locations, but they sound interesting enough to make my list.
Four Seasons is the nicest on the strip, but not the nicest in town. That honor goes to Ritz Carlton on Lake Las Vegas.
Thanks VegasHomeboy. I just called to book for this weekend.
';Ritz Carlton on Lake Las Vegas.';
Actually, a more accurate description would be';
Ritz-Carlton on Muddy Pond Las Vegas.
Also, there is significant ';dirt work'; going on all around the big, muddy pond and the adjacent very swanky hotels.
I have taken the shuttle to Sam%26#39;s Town on my last trip. I enjoyed the off- strip atmosphere and would like to visit other casinos in the area. But what is the distance from Sam%26#39;s Town to the other casinos on Boulder Highway? Walk? Taxi? CAT bus? I plan to return to the strip via the Sam%26#39;s Town shuttle. Any thoughts?
arizona charlies is about 1 mile away (n.w.) boulder station maybe 2 miles away the other way there is nevada palace (low end ) close by, and jokers wild and longhorn down the road..
boulder station is best casino, az good, jokers wild ok low rollers casino, longhorn small low end casino, nevada palace been 15 years and it was no fun low end dump,
Don%26#39;t walk. That street is full of psychos and crime. Driving is ideal, but if you%26#39;re not renting a car the bus may suffice. The stops are still a little shady but nothing compared to walking the whole distance. Taxi is probably safer but not so much so that it%26#39;s worth the extra money. What casinos, in particular, did you want to visit?
Arizona Charlie%26#39;s and Boulder Station
Why?
The only ';decent'; casinos on Boulder are Sam%26#39;s, Boulder Station and Az. Charlies and all are a good distance apart and none offer anything you can%26#39;t get on the strip or downtown. I would rec. a trip downtown instead where you can walk to at least six or seven as good or better casinos.
Just wondering what people%26#39;s impressions are of different spas in Las Vegas. I have been to Luxor%26#39;s and Flamingos and am very curoius about other ones.
MGMs spa was VERY nice, except for their airbrush tanning tech sucked and she used a horrible solution that turned me kind of purple.
The Hard Rock spa was not nearly as swank as I expected for the price, the treatment room was really cramped, and so were the women%26#39;s lockers.
The Paris Spa was pretty nice, my husband and I had a couples massage there at Christmas of %26#39;02.
We%26#39;re going to the Red Rock Spa in a few weeks, I%26#39;ve got high hopes. I have a friend who says the Green Valley Ranch spa is one of the nicest she%26#39;s been to anywhere, and she%26#39;s been to many.
Thanks! I might look into MGM. Maybe Red Rock or Green Valley too if we want to venture away from the action. I%26#39;m curious about all of them....trying to find a decent weekend deal, I like spas that are not too crowded.....does Vegas have any spas that are open 24/7 anymore? The luxor was when I first went there but no longer is.
From everything I have seen, all spas close at 8 pm now :/
Oh, I meant to add that the Caesar%26#39;s Spa is supposed to be really nice.
We almost booked ourselves for massages %26amp; facials there, but I%26#39;m too excited about seeing Red Rock%26#39;s, it%26#39;s a brand new 25,000 square foot facility, it looks sweet!
Caesar%26#39;s Spa is very nice, don%26#39;t know if you have to be a guest there in order to use it though. Canyon Ranch at the Venetian is awesome and you don%26#39;t have to be a hotel desk to have an appt there. Their stone massage is to die for!!
You can make an appointment at Caesar%26#39;s Spa for treatments whether you are a guest in the hotel or not.
I want to try Canyon Ranch at the Venetian someday, it looks grand!
I really enjoyed the Spa at the Flamingo also. In April I was at Harrah%26#39;s and it just was not on the same level at all. My masseuse, Steve, was WONDERFUL!! and I would return for aother AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE with him, but the rest of the Spa was not grand at all, there were no attendants and they didn%26#39;t have the nice showers like at Flamingo, the shower in my hotel room was a better option! And my own drugstore toiletries were of a much better quality than the White Rain (I%26#39;m NOT kidding!) products available for complimentary use at the Spa.
Thanks for the comments about flamingo. I am thinking of going back there since its cheaper on the weekend. I was there but was so sick I think my judgement was clouded, though I do remember the nice eucalyptus room that helped me to breathe! I might try canyon ranch was well!
We have been to both the MGM and the Canyon Ranch Spa at the Venetian-both were amazing-Canyon ranch being the best.
FYI everyone...there is a special running at both the Elemis Spa at the Aladdin and the Mandara Spa at Paris.
You get $25 off your services and products totalling at least $150 (Mon - Thurs)
Or $10 off a day pass.
You can print the coupon off of the Hotel webisites on the spa page.
Which is better? Elemis or Mandara? Does anyone have a preference?

Arriving on a Friday. Can we ';check-in'; for the Mirage (and check for upgrade) at the airport? If so, can you tell me where? Also, I need help in deciding which car rental agency to go with. I%26#39;ve read here that the agency counters are at the baggage claim area. Is this all of the companies (ie; Budget, Dollar, Thrifty, Alamo, etc) Any suggestions?
From: http://lasvegas4newbies.com/chap3-8.html
MGM Mirage and Harrah%26#39;s Entertainment both have full service hotel registration facilities right at McCarran International Airport. They are conveniently located in the Terminal 1 baggage claim area near the Carousel No. 1 to 2 area at the base of the escalators.
There are two separate registration areas; one handles two (only) MGM Mirage hotels (MGM and New York-New York) , the other Harrah%26#39;s Entertainment properties (Caesars Palace, Paris, Harrahs, Bally鈥檚, the Rio and the Flamingo). Telephone number for the check-in counter at the airport is 1-800-818-7450 for all hotels except the MGM and NY-NY. Airport check-in counter phone for the MGM and NY-NY is (702) 261-5211.
Read: ';Getting around the city'; at:

It covers all types of Las Vegas transportation optioons for visitors.
Thanks amfmoore and fred m. Appreciate the feedback. I will also sent out the website you send, fred. Sounds interesting.
Does anyone have any car rental recommendations (or negatives)?
I%26#39;ve used Thrifty over 30 times in Vegas and I never had any problems with them. I book online and then keep checking their rates. If their rates drop, I either contact them or a cancel and rebook at the lower rate. I did that twice on my last rental.
Anyone stayed here? Got an e-mail from them, the price is comparable to the other hotels we are looking at, and are now wondering if we should stay there. Can anyone give us details on the rooms at T.I.????? ie. Size, bed comfort, bathrooms. Is the pool area good there?
It%26#39;s a nice hotel with good sized rooms that are nice, decent bathrooms, can%26#39;t remember the beds so must have been ok or I would have noticed. Pool area is small compared to those of other casinos though. The location is good as well.
Just stayed there two weeks ago. Rooms were very nice. Beds comfy. The pool is too small for a hotel with 3000 but it is an attractive pool. Casino at night is filled with many 20 somethings on their way to Tangerine. You feel very old..very fast. LOL
The regular rooms are ok. The Petite and Tower suites are nicer. Both have 2 bathrooms, and the jacuzzi is also nice. They have a claustraphobic feel though as there is only 1 window in the room.
Stayed at TI last June (one year ago this week) and it was a very nice, clean hotel. Great location too....Mirage is a 2 minute walk and Venetian is across the street.
Can%26#39;t go wrong with TI, especially if you get a good room rate.
In an ealier post you mentioned you were considering Mirage or Wynn. if you%26#39;re comparing TI to either of those options TI is at the back of the pack. In another post you mentioned the Flamingo %26amp; the Palms- I%26#39;d pick TI over those two, but I%26#39;m not into the pool scene so that aspect of the properties might make the Flamingo a better choice than it would be for me.
I guess what I%26#39;m saying is that you%26#39;ll get the most useful information if you give us more details. What are the other hotels you%26#39;re considering? What is important to you in a hotel?
Good luck with your trip planning!

Huh? What happened to Treasure Island? What happened to the pirates? Why, Vegas grew up, that%26#39;s what. Or, rather, it wants the kids it once actively tried to court to grow up, or at least, not come around until they are able to drink and gamble properly.
Originally the most modern family-friendly hotel, the former Treasure Island was a blown-up version of Disneyland%26#39;s Pirates of the Caribbean. But that%26#39;s all behind them now, and the name change is there to make sure you understand this is a grown-up, sophisticated resort. There might still be the odd pirate element here and there, but only because someone absent-mindedly missed it in a recent ruthless purging of the last remnants. The latest victim is the pirate stunt show out front; it%26#39;s been revamped so that the pirates, and you have no idea how much we wish we were making this up, now ';battle'; scantily clad ';strippers'; -- er, ';sirens.';
To be fair, none of this matters a whit, unless, like us, you got a kick out of the skulls and crossbones, and treasure chests bursting with jewels and gold, that originally decorated the place. What remains, after they stripped the pirate gilt, is such a nice place to stay that in some ways, it even outranks its older sister, The Mirage. The well-sized rooms pretty much follow the pattern of The Mirage%26#39;s last phase of room decor -- modified French Regency with a mélange of patterns, but the monochromatic color (many shades of gold) tones it down, and overall, while not distinctive, per se, they are much nicer than most in their price range. Good bathrooms feature a large soaking tub -- a bather%26#39;s delight. Best of all, Strip-side rooms have a view of the pirate battle -- views are best from the sixth floor on up. You know, so you can see right down the sirens%26#39; dresses.
The hotel offers a premier restaurant, the Buccaneer Bay Club, a hotel buffet, and the new branch of Los Angeles%26#39;s Canter%26#39;s deli that just opened. The Battle Bar, in the casino near the race and sports book, is being redone as we write this, but does provide patio seating overlooking Buccaneer Bay; for the best possible view of what%26#39;s now going to be called ';The Sirens of TI,'; arrive at least 45 minutes before the show and snag a table by the railing. Treasure Island is home to Cirque du Soleil%26#39;s Mystère , one of the best shows in town.
A free tram travels between Treasure Island and The Mirage almost around the clock. For a good photo op, sit in the front of the first car: As you leave the loading dock, note how The Mirage, palm trees, and a bit of the New York-New York skyline are framed in an attractive, and surreal, manner.
There%26#39;s a full-service spa and health club with a complement of machines, plus sauna, steam, whirlpool, massage, on-site trainers, TVs and stereos with headsets, and anything else you might need (including a full line of Sebastian grooming products in the women%26#39;s locker room). There%26#39;s a $20-per-day fee to use the facilities.
The pool is not that memorable, with none of the massive foliage and other details that make the one at The Mirage stand out (so blah is it that the staff didn%26#39;t even bother to check room keys when last we swam here). It%26#39;s a large, free-form swimming pool with a 230-foot loop slide and a nicely landscaped sun-deck area. It%26#39;s often crawling with kids, so if that%26#39;s a turn-off, go elsewhere.
Facilities: Casino; showrooms; 11 restaurants; outdoor pool; fitness center and spa; concierge; tour desk; car-rental desk; business center; shopping arcade; 24-hr. room service; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; executive-level rooms.
While you%26#39;re there check out Tangerine and Kahunaville (at night).
They are fun places.
What%26#39;s up with the Fodor%26#39;s description of the pool? I was there last summer and I don%26#39;t remember any loop slide and they did check keys. The advantage to no lazy river or wave pool is that there are fewer kids around, so not as much splashing and less crowding in the pool itself. When I was there, except for Saturday we had no trouble getting lounge chairs. Most people wanted to lay out in the sun or sit on the edge of the pool.
Like Writergirl, I have to question the Fodor%26#39;s review. I mean, ';a premier restaurant, the Buccaneer Bay Club';? I%26#39;ve never heard anyone rave about the restaurant and it ranks #387 out of 702 restaurants here on TA.
TI is a good hotel in a great location. As others mentioned, pass on it if you are a pool fan; WAY too small for the property. Most of the chairs are all side by side an a sidewalk like patio away from the pool. Other than than that, great hotel if you get a nice rate. We have stayed in both the petite and tower suites and liked them both.
We have reservations for our honeymoon at MGM Signature Suites May 25 - 29th. We received a call earlier TONIGHT saying that The Signature would not be available. (Did I mention that we are supposed to check in tomorrow?) The best that they have been able to come up with so far is a Premiere Suite at Luxor?#$@* What is this? Anyone know? Nothing available onlineas far as pictures, and the lady at Luxor was not very descriptive as far as the ';type'; of room. All we have been told is 1050 sq ft and should fit our needs which is in room for Champange/Cake reception for 20 people. Any help would be appreiciated as our plane leaves Dallas in 8 1/2 hours!!!!
you prepaid for your honeymoon suite? you had reservations and THEY cancelled on you? Tell them to put you into the mansion for your inconvienience, nice suites ...madonna is staying there this weekend as well. They should give you the best for free as this seems to be their fault. Other than that....try ceasars, they are not owned by mgm :)
I agree with the last poster....
How did they cancel your room?
Did you pay for it yet?
Demand a better room upgrade on MGM for this problem.
Ask to talk to the manager to get it done!!!!
Good luck!!!
They did have us pay for one night up front and according to the person who called there are no rooms/suites available at MGM due to the Madonna concert - thus Luxor. And we have asked to speak to a manager however it seems that by the time they got around to calling us, there was no one ';available'; that had the authority to do anymore than what they are offering. We will have to deal with this when we arrive later today.....
it seems like they%26#39;re focused on this madonna concert - and why hotel room managers would be preoccupied with this is beyond me.
if they don%26#39;t resolve this issue by the time your flight takes off from dallas, my suggestion would be to make the best of it at the luxor. you%26#39;re there on a honeymoon to CELEBRATE with friends and family, right? just put this mishap behind you - for now - and have a good time.
MGM%26#39;s day of reckoning comes afterwards when you write a descriptive, pointed, %26amp; stern letter to the hotel management....and follow it up with another one if you don%26#39;t get a prompt response.
you guys deserve better treatment than this, so let%26#39;s hope they do you right by setting you guys up with a nice package for your next vegas vacation.
remember: honeymoon = happy times. don%26#39;t let the MGM (or madonna) spoil it for you!
I agree totally with the last poster and it might serve you better in the long run to just go with the flow before. Remember, even at the Luxor, they are in control and you don%26#39;t want them to ruin it anymore than they have. You can bring out the big guns afterwards.
Sounds like Madonna needed more rooms for her entourage.....
I%26#39;d ask them if they were going to toss in complimentary Madonna tickets for your time and trouble...
Complimentary Madonna tix? I do agree, however, I%26#39;m thinking complimentary tix to ANYTHING on ANY of their properties, along with complimentary meals at any of their restaurants!!!! I also agree that it%26#39;s probably best all around to ';put it behind you';....for now. But I don%26#39;t understand how a manager wasn%26#39;t ';available';. Isn%26#39;t there a manager on duty at ALL TIMES? I%26#39;d be FURIOUS, but you don%26#39;t want your honeymoon spoiled. They really should be offerering you ';complimentary'; just about anything.
I hope once you arrive, you%26#39;ll be surprised at all the ';freebies'; you are offered. I%26#39;ve never stayed at Luxor, but a friend of mine just got back from a stay there, and she loved it. I hope it all turns out in your favor. You should really WIN BIG for all your trouble!! Let us know how it all turns out. And major congrats and best wishes on your marriage!
Make the most of it hopefully you only have one honeymoon and explain it nicely to management. Ask for a free trip the next time on dates of your choosing ,plus ask to have all your meals comped, plus Madonna tickets ,and mention the fact that you used the m.g.m because of tripadvisor and will be psting a full report back on this site.Every hotel hates bad publicity.Write a full complaint to management when you get back ,and a full trip report.Get the names of the people you are dealing with.Try and not lose your temper ,you will catch more bees with honey than vinegar .Be polite but forceful and get agreements in writing.Good luck and congratulations on your forthcoming nuptials.
Thank you candycornhead for posting about this. I am booked at the Signature 6/6 through 6/10 and now I%26#39;ll probably change and stay somewhere else. When I called the Signature front desk they couldn%26#39;t assure me that this wouldn%26#39;t happen to me too. Great customer service!
Just checked you had a binding legal contact with mgm and I would remind them of this.
I am! I am going around the 16th. Was planning to go on the 29th but that%26#39;s when schools starts again for my son.
I just got back 2 weeks ago and I can%26#39;t wait to go again!
?
I will be there from August 7 to 13 on my honeymoon! I cannot wait!
Congrats and have fun! Where you staying at?
I%26#39;ll be there Aug 20 - 25th. Staying at Monte Carlo. Where are you staying?
10 of us are going on Aug 3-7 staying at various hotels. 40th birthday for 4 out of the 10 and can%26#39;t wait. DH and I are staying at Monte Carlo. Have never stayed at this property but got a great deal through Northwest. Others are staying at Bally%26#39;s, Bellagio and at Mirage. We plan on rotating through the pools just to see different ones each day. 59? days and counting.
Me me me! Havent booked yet but either the 1st or 2nd week of Aug. So excited :)
Going the 9th-15th! It has been 3 long years since I was last there. I am celebrating my 10th anniversary. Going again in December with my husband and his softball team for a tournament. Should be fun, it is the same time the rodeo is in town.
Silver67impala,
Thanks! We are staying at TheHotel at Mandalay Bay. I have never been to Vegas so I am extremely excited! We are definately going to see Zumanity and eating at Prime at Bellagio. I would also love to get a cabana for a day and visit the spa. Anyway, Happy Planning!
I haven%26#39;t decided where we are staying yet. I have to do a tight budget this time around. Trying to shop for the best deal. Using Fatwallet.com seems to be helping. I am thinking the aladdin but not sure about the construction. It seems to be the cheapest decent hotel so far. If anyone has any suggestions that%26#39;d be cool.
Dollar Slots, you may find it is more difficult to visit the different pools, at least at the same time. Most pools check room keys and want each person to have a key.
I%26#39;m sure however, there will be many people who will now reply that you won%26#39;t have any trouble.
We have 3 nights booked at Terribles (one night was free). We%26#39;ve never stayed there before. I know they had some construction going on - is there a specific part of the hotel we can request to be away from noise? Thanks.
Terrible's Hotel/Casino - anyone stayed there recently?Don%26#39;t know about their rooms, but can%26#39;t believe they are any better than below average based on Terrible%26#39;s TA reviews/ratings. The casino area is the most cramped and smoky one I have seen anywhere. If staying somewhere off-strip and cheap is what you are looking for, Orlenas would be a FAR better choice. Orleans has VERY Good rooms at very cheap rates as well as a nice casino, nice pool and good dining choices.
Terrible's Hotel/Casino - anyone stayed there recently?Stopped in to check it out while exploring....the casino is appropriately named.
YOU can do better.
CK out ORLEANS, Monte Carlo, Rio, Gold Coast.
Terribles is Terrible, especially when the cycle gangs visit.
Stayed there May 05-14 of this this year. Room was older and dated, but ALWAYS CLEAN!
Service was excellant. We requested a few extra pillows and towels, before we returned to our room from the buffet, they were there.
They are building a new wing, but we never herd any noise from the construction.
If your looking for a nice quiet place, that is clean and close to all with out breaking the bank, you can%26#39;t go wrong.
The pool area is wonderful.
Casino slots are tight.
Buffet was excellant for the price.
I will be more then willing to answer any other question you may have.
My wife and I wil be at the Flamingo in a few weeks (7/4-7/8). When we booked the rook on the hotel%26#39;s site, the only choice was smoking/nonsmoking, King or 2 Queens, etc. But I read here about upgrades one can ask for when you check in. What should we ask for in terms of a nicer room at the Flamingo? A certain tower or section, a certain view, etc.? Please advise. I%26#39;ve been many times to Vegas, but never to the Flamingo.
I would ask for a complimentary upgrade to the Presidential Suite, with the requisite $20 tip fully exposed.
We just stayed at the Flamingo for Memorial Day. When we checked in at the airport, my husband had a $20 bill in his hand and asked if any upgrades were available. The man said he could put us in a really nice room. He assured us the room he could put us in would be great-and it was!!!! Our view was of Bellagio and Caesars! Rm 21064. The $20 tip was worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you Whitesoxgal and Staunchsteve. I appreciatethe tips.
Has anyone done the bottle service at Pure? If so, what time do you recommend getting there to get your table? Do you have to wear wristbands? We have 7 girls in our group but only 4 want to do the bottle service. How hard would it be to go down the the dance floor with them and get back to the table or take turns at the table? Just wondering b/c I feel bad leaving them out while we are living it up!
I called Pure and they said you don%26#39;t have to wait long if you have a table reserved but I%26#39;ve read other wise. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I was on the VIP list but I did not get a table/bottle service. I was in the area with people who did, and they only got in about 10 minutes quicker than we did. We got ehere are 9:30 and did not get in till 10:15. They start seating tables around 10. You can get there close to 10 as long as you can make your way to the front of the VIP area to let them know you have a table....
Would not be any problem getting from table to dance floor unless you get a table upstairs at the outside area.
do you remember seeing wristbands on the people who had reserved tables??? I thought maybe when a few of us wanted to dance the others could enjoy the table. Didn%26#39;t know if that was possible or not. I feel bad leaving them out but we really want a table.
Sorry don%26#39;t remember.....
We had bottle service at Light (Bellagio), and they had security watching the tables so that people who were not paying for the tables could not use them.
Pure does not use wristbands for its VIP/Bottle Service areas. You should not have a problem having the other girls at your table as “invited guests”. Those with bottles and tables invite others over to “Have a drink”, this is totally normal. Depending on where your table is at you should be able to dance right around it. Also, you’ll be seated pretty quickly since you have reservations although it never hurts to slip a tip to your host for faster service. Have fun!
I assume so that security would watch your drink to prevent it being stolen, or worse, spiked ?That was a worry for me as I am thinking of doing it one night ,even though personally I think it is a waste of money. My wife on the other hand loves to dance but hates to stand.
I was at Pure 2 weeks ago on a Friday. We arrived at the club around 1 am and told the bouncer that we were with a group that had table service upstairs on the patio. We were able to get past the line and into the club right away but for the table area, you were supposed to have a wrist band.
Both the roof and the dance floor were so packed you could hardly move. We preferred Tao on the Thursday night.
Can anyone give me an idea how much I can expect to pay...also how much from there to downtown? Thanks!
-Kris
just travelled from red rock canyon back to Hilton LV and ride was 45 min. the resort was appox 10 min from red rock canyon. it would probaly be cheaper to rent a car. From Alamo we paid $22/day mid size and filled gas tank once in three days for $30
tarynD: Thanks for the suggestion! I%26#39;ve been kicking the car rental idea around, but since hubby and I really enjoy our cocktails, I%26#39;m not sure that%26#39;s such a bright move on our part....definitely don%26#39;t need a DUI to ruin our good time... [b]
From where to RRR? From center strip around $35 one-way. About the same to DT.
I also suggest rethinking renting a car. My husband and I just got back and we rented one again- we never don%26#39;t rent. This time the rental was $93 for a Wed afternoon to a Sun afternoon- I ordered a compact but Dollar had none available when we got to lot so we got a Jeep Grand Cherokee for no additional money. NOT too bad!!
By the way- the $93 was total with all taxes and fees- the only thing I got extra-bought online thru Travelguard was collision damage waiver for $9 a day instead of the $15 a day the car rental company charges.
We did our drinking once we were back at the Monte Carlo for the evening- we love to drive to many different locations-and love the freedom of having a car at our disposal.
The Red Rock Casino is BEAUTIFUL by the way!!
Should you decide to rent a car just check back online after booking- I rebooked twice becasue the rate came down over $30 from my first booking.
ENJOY!! J
Thanks again for the replies! It definitely seems like renting a car is the way to go if I%26#39;m going to keep my reserevation at Red Rock! I%26#39;m still so undecided...at $35 one way for cab fare, it would seem to make more sense just to find a place on the strip for the difference! My only reason for picking RRR this trip is that hubby and I always say we want to see that area, but never seem to make it out of the casino to get there...thought this might be a good solution? Plus, I thought the pool would be less crowded at RRR than the hotels on the strip...decisions, decisions.....
-Kris
FLChick,
I just got off the phone with Red Rock Casino, ';Brandy'; told me that Red Rock Casino offer a free shuttle for Hotel guest to and from the Fashion Show Mall every 2 hours.
If you want my personal opinion....rent a car!!!
Cheers
I had my first visit to Red Rock Station last week - gorgeous place - ate in their coffee shop - adequate - pricing fair, food fair
It%26#39;s far out, but I loved it - have you considered splitting your hotel nights while in Vegas? Lots of people do it - a few nights at Red Rock, a few on the strip? You could rent a car only while at red rock
have a ball!
Don%26#39;t do it. If you are going to spend the money to do that, you are better off staying near/on strip and definitely rent a car. I travel to Vegas from LA all the time, and will rent a car if staying off strip. It costs 30.00 typically just mid strip to downtown which is not that far(consider traffic time which will cost you) and mileage. Red Rock is about 20 miles from downtown. Get a cheap rental either in town or at airport (see travelworm for low cost rentals - some as low as 17/day depending on day of the week). We are breaking up our stay up. 2 nights at Red Rock and 1.5 days on the strip.
