I have not been to LV since 1995 (could be considered a quasi-vegas virgin!!) and expect alot of changes. I%26#39;m staying at Fitzgeralds downtown and was wondering is it safe to walk to Main Street Station at night? Also, approximately how far is it from Fremont Street? Also, which casinos downtown have the lowest minimums for Craps and Roulette?
thanks
Downtown QuestionAll I can tell you is it is safe. Its a block or two but there is a in closed walkway you can use.
Downtown QuestionWe don%26#39;t do craps, but depending on the time of day, you can usually find fifty cent or dollar roulette ( per chip, 2 dollar minimum bet) at Fitzgerald, Fremont and Four Queens. Usually there is at least one of the two tables at each for fifty cents, but sometimes up to a dollar at night ( I%26#39;m speaking of weekdays here, not weekends)
If you are willing and able to take a short walk down Fremont street , a couple of blocks out of the canopy, the El Corez has lately had twenty five cent roulette most of the time, with either a two or four dollar minimum. It%26#39;s not a walk I would take after dark, but we like to hike down there by day- it%26#39;s a real local color spot and the cocktails flow pretty freely. %26#39; I know there is some sort of low minimum roulette at Golden Gate as well, but we%26#39;ve never looked carefully to see just what.
You can get to Main Street Station from Fremont St. by walking through the Vegas Club , out the back and into the California Casino . There is a covered, elevated walkway to the Main Street Station from there. We%26#39;ve never walked on the street there really late at night, but have done so at twilight and not felt unsafe. I would suggest the indoor route anyway, however.
Actually, its just over four blocks....
Walk to the west end of the Fremont Street canopy (Plaza end), take a right (north) on main, just over a block on left side of street.
It is safe, but the block from the canopy to MSS can get real lonely after about 2 AM.
Here is a map...

Most Downtown joints are nowadays fairly close on minimum. The El Cortez sometimes has a $3 craps game during the day, but is generally $5 minimum at night like all the rest. The Horsehoe used to deal a $3 game during the days too; but now that it is Binion%26#39;s doesn%26#39;t always do so.
Do what Lulutoo advised and walk through the Las Vegas Club. I was there in March. My buddy and I (we%26#39;re two fairly good sized guys) were walking on the sidewalk between Fremont and the California. Had one crackhead following us and one approaching us from the other direction. They tried to cause some problems with us, we had to dodge in LV Club to get away from them (other choice was to deck them).
This was in the middle of the afternoon, too.
