Tet14 and other Dutch visitors flying to LAS

I am researching flights for summer 2007 for my nephew and his girlfriend who are planning to see the Utah parks and want to fly in and out of Las Vegas. Are there any flights from Amsterdam that arrive in the morning or middle day rather than later in the evening and what in your opinions are the best airlines on this route? We prefer non stop, but if there is a stop then one without too long of a wait between flights. Thanks.

Bump please

Hi Juday

We flew most of the western hubs and many on the eastern side too. Last 5 years:

2001: Amsterdam-Chicago-Phoenix- United Airlines

Las Vegas-Washington-Amsterdam-United

2002: Amsterdam-Montreal-KLM

Montreal-Amsterdam-KLM

2004: Amsterdam-Chicago-Salt Lake City-United

SLC-Minneapolis-Amsterdam-North West (family

circomstances)

2005: Amsterdam-Chicago-San Antonio-United

San Antonio-Chicago-Amsterdam-United.

So I don%26#39;t know about direct flights Amsterdam-LV. Try www.klm.com

I always compare the internet and the travelagency rates. Best is, first contact a travelag. They often have special rates, better than the internet. Not always. This year october we fly Amsterdam-Singapore-Brisbane and the Singapore Airlines internet rate was Euro 300,-- cheaper. So we booked and paid by the net.

It%26#39;s not set in stone but most of the time, the sooner the better to make reservations. From Amsterdam the KLM or their partner North West fly many destinations, but often with a stopover.

To give you an idea: Rates booked by travelagency 2006:

Amsterdam-Las Vegas by United: from Euro 488,-- (booked far in advance) class W to Euro 678,-- class Q. (Not between june 16 and aug 28). KLM: from Euro 496,-- to 597,-- (not between june 16 and aug.28) and without taxes.........

Departure time often is between 11 am and noon from Amsterdam, Chicago arrival 1 pm. Departure to Salt Lake City 3.30 pm arrival SLC 6 pm. This is a very short time between Chicago arrival and departure. You have to face immigration in Chicago and that may take a long time. We missed our SLC connection and had to take a plane 2 hours later. And as always: Avoid visiting the USA between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but you knew that already.

Hope this helps.

';And as always: Avoid visiting the USA between Memorial Day and Labor Day, but you knew that already.';

That seems a bit drastic...what%26#39;s behind that thought?

My guess is that it means to be aware that our magnificent western national parks are loved to death by the end of a long hot summer! Crowds, noise and vehicle pollution etc ... but, that said, if it is the only time to visit ,then come, but do some advance planning and find places and activities away from parking lots and accomodations. Many tourists do not stray far from their cars so even a few hundred yards down a trail and you can leave the ';madding crowds'; far behind and enjoy Nature at her best.

Yes IrisFan, it%26#39;s a bit drastic and I%26#39;m sorry to put it this way. But we always visit april/may or september/october and that%26#39;s a magnificent time to visit. Of course I know many people are schooltermsbound and they won%26#39;t have the opportunity to travel in spring or autumn, and august and june are very nice periodes to visit the northern states in your country. Better said: Try to avoid the heat and schoolholidays, especially in july.

Cheers

Tet

Thanks for the comprehensive reply, Tet. I think they wanted to fly from Teeside UK because they saw flights from Amsterdam to LAS. It would be easier for them to take a quick flight to Amsterdam than going via Heathrow /Manchester etc on their initial investigation. Good point to book as soon as the seats become available eleven months out and to compare rates. Will pass this along.
