';Hairspray'; closing

Read on one of the usenet Vegas groups that the musical ';Hairspray'; will have final curtain call this Sunday. I cant veify this information but might be a heads-up for anyone thinking about seeing the show.

';Hairspray'; closing

I just (yesterday) received an offer from Luxor that includes 2 for 1 tickets to Hairspray and is good through Aug. 31. Of course, these things are printed up way in advance of mailing and something might have come about to cause them to cancel the show.

';Hairspray'; closing

It is closing this Sunday. Not doing well enough box office to justify staying in Vegas. I had 3 tickets for the first week in July. Oh well, plenty of other things to do in Vegas!

I think this a bad sign for the shows that are being imported from NYC. First Avenue Q and now Hairspray-both shows that were hits in New York(enjoyed both of them) but did poorly in Vegas. I can%26#39;t help wondering how well Phantom and Spamalot will do.

vp03 I agree totally. I can%26#39;t help thinking that with the amazing success of the Cirque shows, a lot of Vegas hotels have maybe thought they should move on to something that would be a bit more sophisticated than traditional Vegas entertainment. They%26#39;ve perhaps not realised that the Cirque phonomonon has been so powerful that a great many visitors will now chose one of their shows for their one evening of mind-stimulating entertainment whilst in town rather than something else a bit different from the norm.

Of couse there have been successes in this area (eg Blue Man) but I too suspect that more imported shows will close sooner rather than later.

You forget Mama Mia. I see it every time I%26#39;m in Vegas. Love the show

Blue Man Group is strictly a musical. Mamma Mia is almost the same- a chance to hear ABBA songs-emphasis on songs not the weak plot. Avenue Q, Hairspray, Phantom and Spamalot are in a whole different category. The emphasis is on the ';story'; not the songs. The songs are there to support the plot!
