My trip report for May 29th-June 2nd staying at the Aladdin…sorry if it’s a bit long at times!
Me, my husband %26amp; my 69 year old dad went on this trip… (My husband %26amp; I go about 4 times a year to Vegas)
We took the red-eye out of DCA on May 29th %26amp; arrived 10:30pm Vegas time. We then went hopped the shuttle to get our rental car from National…what a royal pain that was…I knew that it was “off” the airport, but we had the bus driver from hell and it took over 40 minutes just to get to National %26amp; then stand in line for another 25 minutes….FINALLY arrived at the Aladdin…took the advice that was given from this forum %26amp; valet parked, thank God we did! Check in was a breeze, actually it was great! We were booked for the deluxe room %26amp; as I was talking to the check in guy, I casually asked if there were any up-grades because I would really appreciate it and I mentioned that it was due to the reviews about the hotel on tripadvisor.com that I chose the Aladdin. Todd (hotel desk) was truly amazing…he hooked us up w/ a resort room and said that if I was not happy w/ that, then come back the next morning %26amp; he would see what he could do…so I went back %26amp; got another upgrade to the resort vista room was a great view of the fountains and the Paris hotel!
Ok, so now the hotel story is out of the way..lol, here’s what we did during our trip:
Tuesday, left at 9am to go to the Klondike hotel… (This was our day to see all the outer-lying casino’s)…has breakfast at the coffee shop there and it was $15.00 for the 3 of us…food was not as bad as I thought it was going to be! Then we played 10 cent roulette there! Woo-Hooo!! Started w/ $5.00 and left 90 minutes later w/ $8.50! I know, I know not a big deal but hey…$5.00 lasted a long time! Then we drove to Primm and hit the Silverton, nice hotel, very clean casino %26amp; Mermaids bar was really cool….we sat in the bar for awhile just looking at the fish, stingrays %26amp; jelly-fish. The onto Whiskey Petes, and the other casino’s out that way…It wasn’t bad, lots of locals, not to many tourists, gaming was good and we won a bit playing craps. Lunch was at Green Valley %26amp; was priced good %26amp; the food wasn’t too bad either. Went to the SunCoast and that was really nice, big open casino floor and easy to navigate %26amp; gaming was pretty good too.
Wed.-Strip day, woke up at 9am, had breakfast at the Spice Market buffet in the Aladdin. I don’t know what all the fuss is about this place…we went at 10:15 to catch the end of breakfast %26amp; the beginning of lunch…to me, paying $42.00 for 3 people for breakfast was a little high…the food was ok, and again, I don’t get what the fuss is all about.
Casino’s-went to MGM, place is huge, tried to get to play the mechanical horses, but to no avail, it was packed; to the monorail to the Hilton since I had a $25.00 resurant.com coupon for Quarks. I am not a Trekkie at all, my husband is, and I just love the atmosphere of the place! We ordered 2 drinks, 2 appetizers %26amp; w/ the coupon %26amp; tip, it cost us $15.00. We also went to the Sports Book at the Hilton for about 2 hours to do some horse betting,
gambled a bit, won some %26amp; then walked to the Riviera, gambled a bit, lost, went to Slots of Fun, gambled, lost, went to Circus Circus, gambled a bit %26amp; won, went to the Stardust and lost…A LOT….to the Deuce back to the Aladdin to change shower %26amp; change %26amp; meet up w/ dad for dinner. He’s not a big walker, so was very happy just staying at the Aladdin to gamble and eat, plus due to health conditions, he can’t be in the heat to long…even if it IS a “dry heat”!
Ate at the Spice Market Buffet again and was disappointed again…the food just is not as amazing as I thought it was going to be… (Almost $75.00 for the 3 of us + tip)
Went downtown that night…what a HUGE difference from the weekend! It was actually very clean, no funky “smells”, no homeless…just the complete opposite that it was in Feb. We watched 2 of the Freemont shows and then went into the Vegas Club, gambled, Binnions, to eat %26amp; get the steak %26amp; lobster special…the lobster was yummy, the steak was so tough that if you through it at someone’s head, it would knock them out. So we had the special, DH had a burger, and onion ring appetizer %26amp; it was $32.00 + tip.
Then onto the Golden Nugget, nice place , I went in to play “Silver Strike” the slot machine that gives you the chance to win a .999 silver coin w/ the casino name on it…on this trip alone, I got 17 of them, after that we went to Freemont, Fitzs, California, and the Plaza…then took a cab back to the Aladdin (cost was $3.45 since the cab driver was so busy complaining to us about the tourist, he forgot to turn on the meter….I paid the fare, plus a $12.00 tip.)
Next morning, Thursday, another strip day, we walk in the 108 degree heat to the Tropicana so we can play the Rapid Roulette game…that game is addicting! I love it! The one thing I do not like about it though is that the guys working the wheel %26amp; the money are asking for tips like every minute…a little rude IMO. Won about $40.00 playing it, walked around a bit %26amp; I have to honestly say, I like the feel of that casino, very up-beat%26amp; a great mix of people. Next onto the Houfbrohouse(sorry, spelled that wrong) for beer and pretzels. ($40.00 for 4 pretzels and 4 beers including tip) Great place, would be a lot of fun w/ a big group of people. Then onto the Hard Rock…at 33 years old, I felt OLD being at that place….gambled a bit %26amp; then went onto Hooters….I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised at the place, the girls were all really sweet, %26amp; drink service was super fast! Walked around, gambled %26amp; went back to the Aladdin to get ready for the night.
Thursday night, we had front row seats to Carrot-Top at the Luxor…I laughed so much that my stomach and face was STILL hurting the next day! He was really great %26amp; I highly recommend the show! After the show, gambled at the Luxor then went to Mandalay Bay, NYNY and Excalibur…I was surprised at how the Excalibur looked so much cleaner then in Feb. NYNY as always was a blast %26amp; Mandalay Bay was very young crowd…then onto the Monte Carlo to have a beer at the micro-brewery and then back to the Aladdin.
Friday-decided to do a late check out on one of the rooms since my dad wasn’t feeling to well, the time change really messed him up! DH %26amp; I went to the Atomic Test Museum, interesting %26amp; DH totally loved it….then onto Red Rock casino. WOW! That place is beautiful! Definitely geared towards the 25-35 year olds. Very hip %26amp; ultra modern. I highly recommend checking out the place. Then onto the Cannery….another big locals place, loved the wood and the classic “Old Vegas” feel.
Back to the Aladdin, to get ready for dinner and to check out by 6pm….decided to go to the Orleans to eat %26amp; spend a few hours before heading to the airport…Friday was packed w/ kids %26amp; everyone under the sun getting their paycheck cashed….I personally didn’t like the Orleans, mainly since the ventilation system sucked %26amp; it was about 90 degrees in the place. Ate at the buffet and was not that impressed…can’t complain about the price though $42.00 + tip for 3 adults. Won $75.00 on the $3.00 Craps table %26amp; $80.00 on the $5.00 BJ table.
Left the Orleans at 9:15 to drop the rental car off, grabbed the shuttle, made it through security %26amp; was at the gate by 10:30 for an 11:55pm flight. Hit the slots one last time, put $5.00 in and was down to my last 2 quarters %26amp; hit for $50.00.
Now I’m home %26amp; I’m already planning another trip for August!!lol!

Aladdin Trip report-May 29th-June2nd
Coll101: Saw the Aladdin in the title of your post; that%26#39;s always a draw for me. Glad you three had a good time. Looking at fares for late October as I can%26#39;t do that dry 108 heat. How is the construction going? I guess since you didn%26#39;t mention it that it must still be unobtrusive. We were there late March and it was basically a non issue for us. Just hope the remodel doesn%26#39;t price us out of the ballgame at Planet Hollywood. The Aladdin%26#39;s comps can%26#39;t be beaten so we tend to play there (like your dad). I agree with the what%26#39;s all the hoopla over the buffet. We get 2for1 or free coupons when we stay there and usually don%26#39;t even use them . It seems overpriced, the ambience down there is definitely lacking, and when you are hitting 50 the fascination with stuffing your face is overshadowed by the dreaded blood tests and doctor%26#39;s visits lol. Again glad you had a good time; let us know how the August trip goes,ok?
Great trip report! Is the rapid roulette at Tropicana different from the Harrah%26#39;s properties?
-They had 2 $3.00 craps tables at the Orleans while we were there %26amp; 1 $5.00 table, we were there Friday night from about 6-9pm and it was right where all the other table games were.
-Construction at the Alladin was not as bad as it was in Feb. All the games (tables and slots) are now on 1 floor. It was easy to navigate since it just goes in a big circle. I kept telling my dad to get a players card, but he didn%26#39;t listen...he gambled close to $3500 for the days he was there too! He is still talking about how amazing Vegas is since for the past 27 years, he only ever gambled in Atlantic City:)
-About the Rapid Roulette, I only saw it at the Tropicana...I didn%26#39;t see it in Harrah%26#39;s %26amp; we didn%26#39;t make it to Balley%26#39;s....fun game though!!
-I%26#39;m glad to see I%26#39;m not the only one who doesn%26#39;t think the Spice Buffett isn%26#39;t ';all that';!lol!
Great report. I really appreciate when people put down the prices of food. It really helps.
Great TR! Sounds like you maybe about broke even or came out a little ahead? I have a question on the off-strip casinos. We are renting a car, and never had thought about going off strip until reading your report. (doh!) Were these places hard to find, and how far away? I%26#39;m interested now in the places you mentioned, but one (Silverton) was in Primm...how far is that? Also, thanks to you, we%26#39;ll be skipping Hard Rock, since we%26#39;re in our late 40%26#39;s. If YOU felt old, we%26#39;ll feel ancient!!! But we will try Hooter%26#39;s, cuz that sounded fun.
Glad your dad had fun. I hope he%26#39;s feeling better!
Tipsie, Primm is on the Nevada - California stateline, about a 40 minute drive south down I-15.
It took us less then 30 minutes to get to Primm (there was no traffic at all) The places were really easy to find %26amp; we mapquested all the directions from the Alladin. I highly recommend Red Rock Casino too...that place was really beautiful %26amp; if you stand on the top level of the parking garage, you get a great view of the Strip.
Let me find my agenda from the trip, and I%26#39;ll post all the web-sites 7 info you need.
Coll101: Tell your dad next time he has to get a player%26#39;s card. Gambling $3500 would have probably gotten you the room for free. We stayed five nights in March and all five were comped and I%26#39;d say we maybe dropped $2000 - $2500. They had comped Mon -Wed when we made the reservation and when we were checking out they comped Thurs and Fri. All we paid for was the food that we charged to the room during our stay ( 5 breakfasts and 3 dinners at Zanzibar approx $225). Hopefully Planet Hollywood will continue the generous comp system already in place lol. P.S. Next time look right next door at Paris for Rapid Roulette. I only saw one table and it was full at 730pm on a Friday night but watch out next time Vegas lol. Thanks for answering my question; Glad you three had a great time.
Great TR! We found the Aladdin was great with the upgrades too. :) Also loved Carrot Top, he was hilarious. Sounds like a great trip!
