LV with kids - Marriott GC & excursions

Hello - We will be driving to LV for a wedding with two children (6, 9) and will be staying at the Marriott Grand Chateau (two nights), which while I understand doesn%26#39;t have a casino, is centrally located on the strip.

We%26#39;ve been to LV once sans kids and aren%26#39;t enthused about what they might see there. The hope is we can have fun without spending much (if any) time at the casinos or walking the strip.

Is this possible?

Also - we are considering Old Nevada %26amp; Red Rock, Hoover Dam for excursions, but how should we factor in the heat, which averages 104 highs in late July?

Thanks!

just type in kids in the search box and you will get plenty of answers to your questions. You sound like one of the more reasonable parents taking their kids to Vegas.

Ok folks, they really don%26#39;t want to take the kids but have a wedding. They understand what the kids will see and are just asking for things to do with the kids. Be kind.

Your kids will enjoy the Hoover dam...Im 30 years old and enjoyed it, so it must seem even bigger and more impressive to a 9 year old. There is reasonable parking around the dam, so to sit outside in the heat for a small amount of time shouldnt be too much of a discomfort.. make sure you have some water with you though.

You should show your kids the strip while down there, especially at night. Some hotels are probably worth the effort (the lions at MGM, or the atrium of the Luxor). Show them the dancing fountains. These should be reasonable sights that wont expose your kids to some of the more adult themes of vegas.

Oh, and dont bother justifying or explaining your trip to some people here who have nothing better to do exept complain that kids dont belong in Vegas. Just read the responses relevant to your questions. :)

Most of the activities involve being on the strip and walking through the casinos. These can be done during the day:

If they like animals- Lion Habitat(MGM), Shark Reef(Mandalay Bay), Secret Garden/Dolphin Habitat (Mirage), back of the Flamingo (they took away the smelly penguins). There is an M%26amp;M store on the strip and the Luxor has an IMAX Theater that shows 3-D movies. Sam%26#39;s Town(off strip) has a cute but short laser/music show a few times a day. The Orleans (off strip) has a movie theater and a bowling alley as well as child care facilities.

You can see the Bellagio fountains during the day (although they do look better at night).

Off strip or on strip- bring plenty of water, sunglasses, a hat and plenty of suntan lotion for the children (and yourself). Red Rock Canyon has an 11 mile loop you can simply drive through. There are pull off points where you can get out of the car and enjoy the scenery or take a short hike. Just go early in the morning.

You could also try one of the Lake Mead cruises as an alternative or in addition to seeing the dam. They have quite a variety, depending on the day of the week such as champagne brunch, early dinner, pizza party, dinner dance, and mid-day sightseeing (snacks are available for purchase). They also recently added an interactive murder mystery cruise that runs once a month. Everything is kid-friendly, and if the kids ask the captain, he%26#39;ll let them in to show how the boat is run and give them a chance at the wheel. All the info is at www.lakemeadcruises.com. The inside is air-conditioned with plenty of seating.

As a child we always had field trips to Red Rock in early summer or spring before it got too hot, and someone always ended up passing out because of the heat, so I wouldn%26#39;t go too far if hiking. They have a museum there that was always one of my favorite places to go with all kinds of Native American artifacts and homes and cars from the 1800s. Or maybe it was early 1900s. I don%26#39;t remember the details, all I know is I loved it!
