I asked this question within another post, so for those of you who%26#39;ve already answered, I apologize. I%26#39;m not getting alerts for whatever reason (they%26#39;re ';working on it';), so I decided to do a separate post and just keep checking it.
Anyway, here goes with my question. I%26#39;ve read a couple off strip casinos that sound worth checking out. I%26#39;m looking for opinions. We have a rental car, so it%26#39;s no biggie getting to these.
1) Is Primm worth the trip? I realize there are only 3 casinos there. Are they worth checking out, or should we skip it?
2) How bout Silverton....worth a trip? Sounds cool.
3) Klondike...where is this, and again, worth the trip?
4) How%26#39;s about Sun Coast?
5) Is Red Rock Cannery a casino? Where is it? And last time...is it worth the trip?
Any opinions are welcome. If there are other casinos off-strip that you guys feel are definitely worth a look-see, please add them!
THANKS!!!!!
Off Strip Casinos
The Klondike is closing. It%26#39;s just south of Mandalay Bay on LVB.
It isn%26#39;t worth the trip -- even if it is still open by the time you get there.
Off Strip Casinos
Thanks! I took it off my list.
Anyone else?
None of the casinos off the Strip are all that great. They%26#39;re OK. Most of them are nice, but nothing special or out of the ordinary......and definitely nothing compared to glitz of the Strip. Most of them are your basic casinos. The casinos at Primm are OK. The Hard Rock might be interesting for you to check out. The Palms gets pretty crowded sometimes, but we thought it was just OK. Green Valley Ranch is nice too.
Red Rock was very classy and worth a look...I always have a great time at the Silverton...I could give or take the Primm casino%26#39;s...run down...
Tipsie,
It depends what you are looking for. The places you list run the spectrum from low-end locals casinos to high end resorts.
I am a fan of Terribles. It has a small casino, but all the video poker games I like to play. They have one craps table that there is always room at. They have a generorus players club, a good buffet, clean and cheap rooms. (They are expanding the hotel, it should open sometime this summer.) Having said that, I would not recommend someone going out of their way to check out the casino. Go there if you are looking for a decent locals place offering cheap everything.
Red Rocks Casino is supposed to be spectacular. It is well off the strip in a unique mountain setting. It will be an impressive facility, and that will be reflected in their room and meal prices. You will not find a $2 craps table there.
I was to Primm once, and not very impressed. There is an outlet mall and an incredibly high roller coaster, if that floats your boat.
Have fun.
STAY in Vegas area.
VISIT, Green Valley Resort, Southcoast, Suncoast, Red rock casino, Orleans, Sams town, Rio, Palms, Lake Las Vegas.
Visit Hoover Dam, Valley of Fire, Red Rock Canyon.
Thank you all for your replies!! As Primm (I believe) is 30-40 minutes off-strip, I think I%26#39;ll skip that. I will keep Silverton and Red Rock on my list of off-strip casinos. I%26#39;m adding Terribles, since I%26#39;ve heard of that before, and it sounds interesting. We%26#39;re not particularly looking for anything either low or high end. Just interesting off-strip places for a day away (without going downtown, which will be a day excursion in and of itself). We%26#39;re staying at the Bellagio, and I just wanted something away from all the strip stuff, just for a day. We%26#39;ll leave whenever we get up, or whenever we%26#39;re done ';pooling'; it. Go wherever we feel like (oh, the joy of having a rental car!!), and return when done. Other day trips are downtown (as stated). Probably take the Deuce for that, since that will be a heavy drinking day! Also, VOF and Hoover Dam one day. We%26#39;re there for 6 full days, so the other 3 will be on-strip. We don%26#39;t have an itinerary, per se, but I wanted an idea of what to do so we won%26#39;t wake up each day going, ';now what';? Did that last time, and really missed a TON of stuff. Didn%26#39;t have a car last time either.
Thanks again for all your help! Anyone else, feel free to add!
Red Rock is quite fabulous and is the highest end property in the Stations Casino family. I%26#39;d continue on out to see Red Rock Canyon if you decide to check it out.
The Cannery is a completely separate casino and is quite geared towards locals, like most of the off-strip places. I really like their 1940%26#39;s style and have had a good time there. It might be worth checking out if you%26#39;re feeling like exploring. They recently opened a new poker room so I may go back. They used to just have a few tables in the middle of the gaming floor.
I think I%26#39;ve been to Sun Coast, but I don%26#39;t remember it being anything special. South Coast is the newest Coast Casino and is pretty nice, though I can%26#39;t say it was necessarily worth the trip. They have an equestrian center but it wasn%26#39;t open when I was there so I don%26#39;t know if random visitors can check it out or not. They also had bingo, bowling %26amp; movies too.
Sam%26#39;s Town is another big local%26#39;s spot. It was pretty nice. I wasn%26#39;t impressed enough to go back yet, but I may some day.
Southcoast is at the southend of the strip and very nice. Went there three weeks ago and my wife loved it.
Sam%26#39;s Town is on Boulder and their slots are better than most.
I stay at the Silverton, again south strip, and hang out at the Mermaid Bar. Sometimes play the bar poker. Enjoy the views.
Both the Silverton restaurant and Fellini%26#39;s at Sam%26#39;s Town are my favorite places to eat.
Try the Fireside Lounge in back of the Peppermill for romantic ambiance.
Forget Primm.
You guys totally rock! This is why I love this forum! Every time I come on this post, I get more and more ideas. Cancel one thing, add another. It%26#39;s GREAT!!!! We%26#39;re just dedicating one day to off strip casinos, so who knows how many we%26#39;ll get to, but I have a list, a map and a car! woo-hoo!!!!
Then we%26#39;re dedicating a day to non-gambling (we%26#39;ll see how that goes!). That%26#39;s the Hoover Dam and VOF day. Is it feasible to do both these things in one day? We%26#39;ll be there in July, so it%26#39;ll probably be too hot to get out at VOF, other than to take a quick pic or two. Is there anything else we can add to that day? I%26#39;m assuming Lake LV would be too much. Is that a day trip in itself?
Again, thank you ALL for your great ideas!!!!
