irishdave, you are going to find many different opinions on everything. When you say it can%26#39;t be that bad, what do you mean. Some people want more than just basic, others are fine with that.

If you give us a budget for food and hotel, we may be able to help you more.

One problem with the Stat is that it is not mid strip so you will be spending time/money to get to mid strip.

SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY, ESP. FOR A FIRST TRIP, EVEN MORE ESPECIALLY FOR A HONEYMOON. GO Sun-Thurs

The strat is a basic Holiday-Inn type quality, not well-decorated, in a very bad location away from all the cool mega-casinos to see...a 25-30 minute walk, past broken glass and homeless guys, or a horrid crowded bus ride, to center strip NOT A ROMANTIC PLACE, except the top-of-tower restaurant

Look for a top level well located property...check rates on websites to see who is tossing out a good rate among the good places;

Luxor, Ballys, Monte Carlo, Aladdin, TI, Harrah%26#39;s(marginal), MGM, Paris, New york-New-York (YOUR BEST LIST FOR FINDING QUALITY AT A DECENT sUN-tHURS RATE)

Top price/luxury...Bellagio, Venetian, Wynn

Check rates for bargains-Well located but none too classy..Tropicana (older rooms), Hooters(recently remodeled-may have nice rooms), Flamingo

oh, yeah, in-between the top level casinos, and the midrange, are 2 very nicely maintained, but often pricey, little bit older classic properties

the Mirage and Caesar%26#39;s palace..if you come across a good rate, go with these

Irishdave,

I agree with dkekitalo%26#39;s post. Although the Strat is clean and acceptable, it is not overly romantic. If your budget permits, the Mirage, MGM, TI, Paris, and the Luxor might be better choices. As for romantic restaurants, Vegas has literally hundreds of outstanding eating establishments to coose from. Many are reviewed daily in this very forum. Welcome to the States and good luck with that honeymoon.

I seriously doubt that there is anything that is that wrong with the Strat...my only reason for not wanting to stay there is that it%26#39;s soooo far down on the strip. Most of the places I like to gamble are mid-strip and that wouldn%26#39;t be an easy walk from the Strat.

irishdave, welcome to the LV forum. I don%26#39;t have any personal experience with the Strat and everyone%26#39;s idea of romantic differs, but thought I would share this site with you for a reference. Other posters are mentioning location of the Strat and referring you to other properties. I thought it would help if you could get a visual of the layout of the properties and this is one of my favorite maps.

Enjoy your trip and congratulations on your wedding.

guys thanks for the advise i think the broken glass and drunks comment done it for me im going to the travel agents tomorrow first thing and changing hotels.budget was a problem when we booked it but no longer due to a work bonus so i quite like the sound of mandalay bay hotel once again thanks guys staying for a week so let me know if any of you will be there and ill shout you a fews drinks .

see if you can find different hotel....are you on a budget for hotel cost? The Strat is at the far north end of the strip, the old side of Vegas. Try the Paris or Monte Carlo mid strip, or if money isn%26#39;t an issue, go all out for Bellagio, the beds are heavenly!!

You also want someplace with a great pool if it is August....Strat has never been recommended for poolside fun. Mandalay Bay at the south end of the strip, Mirage, Hard Rock Hotel *not on the strip* , Flamingo or MGM have better pool areas.

As for meals, you will get a zillion different replies....help us narrow it down for you, you want steak, italian, seafood, what?

If you haven%26#39;t booked with the travel agent, you may want to see what you can do on your own. Sometimes you can get a better rate on the flight and hotel if booked separately.

lvescape thanks for the info very useful
