we are traveling to vegas on the 4th and leaving on the 7th and enjoy the outdoors. we floated on a kayak down the colorado in march at hoover dam down. I know it is hot that time of year. Is there anywhere to go nearby to escape the heat (mts) and hike a little of see anthing interesting. we have a rental car. on the 4th we would like to see fireworks and would like to be somewhere where we can see them and would be willing to drive. we are staying at the monte carlo. thanks for any tips!
day trip in a car 4th of julyMt. Charleston is about 45minutes to an hour away from the strip. It is usually about 20-30 degrees cooler. Here is a site about hiking at Mt. Charleston:

You will not see many fireworks on the strip-just a few from some of the hotels. I did know there is usually a concert, food and fireworks on Durango Road between Spring Mountain and Desert Inn Road- Desert Breeze Park.. I think there is a $5 charge. Here is the web site for more information:

day trip in a car 4th of julyNot exactly sure what you%26#39;re asking here -- are you looking for a place to hike on the 4th where you can also watch the fireworks, or are you asking two questions -- where to hike and where to watch the fireworks?
In any event -- do your hiking in Zion Canyon National Park in southern Utah. It%26#39;s about a 3-1/2 to 4 hour drive. It%26#39;s cooler and there are fabulous hiking trails up the side of the canyon wall that you can do in a few hours. If you can get an early start out of Vegas you can get there by noon. Highly, highly recommended. It%26#39;s a nice drive too.
You%26#39;ll definetly want to take the Narrows hike and start out in the morning before it%26#39;s too crowded.Your hike starts out on a narrow paved trail back into the canyon. When the paved trail stops you drop into the river and hike as far back as you want. The water is cold and refreshing and is about knee deep in most places and chest high in others.You%26#39;ll look up on either side and see canyon walls that climb up a couple thousand feet and in some areas the canyon narrows to where you can touch the walls .THIS HIKE IS A MUST. Enjoy.
Has anyone driven to Pahrump (sp?) winery from Vegas in July?
Is it less hot in that region or would it be as hot as the strip?
How about Red Rock Canyon?
I%26#39;d love to get a rental car for one day to check out these places but if it%26#39;s too miserable to walk around at them in July I will wait for another visit!
Thanks.
